From Ike Litchfield (Conn.) Sun.
Among the many advertised medicines of the day,
ere is nono more justly colebratod than Moffat's
Life Pills and Phconix Bitters. Wherever intro
duced, thoy have given entire satisfaction, and their
vitrues only want to be more extensively known to
render them a universally approved medicine. We
are not in the habit of puffing to contribute to the
venality of quacks Ibr a douceur, and have no faith
in their cure-all nostrums. But Mr. Moffat’s Medi
cines are a different article { his Pills are a good ca
thartic. and his Bitters an excellent tonic. We
know them to be ao from experience, having used
them ourselves in our family, and ao confident are
we oftheir efficacy, that, although wo have no au
thority to do to, we will warrant their giving satis

The best medicines for giving fresh vigor to tho
system, during the warm weather, are Molfat’a Lifo
Pills and Phmnix Bitter*. ' Great numbers who
have made use of them, find that they cleanio the
stomach of all impurities, snd give a healthy tone to
the system, create a good appetite, and thereby re
move the languor ana feebleness, which oppresses
almost overy person during the hot seaeon. Thoao
who are afflicted, need only to make a fair trial of
these medicines to be convinced.
From the LouuvtUe Journal, Oct. 13.
At the solicitation of an old friend, we publish,
with pleasure, in this day’s paper, tetter from Mr.
O. L. Smith, of the firm of Smith, Riddle A Co. of
this city, to Mr. Moffat, of the city of New York,
proprietor of the “Life Pill snd Phmnix Bitters.” In
this letter, Mr. Smith gives an sccount of his suffer
ings ftom a severe attack of chronic rheumatism,
under which he labored for more than three yoars.
and of his speedy cure by the use of the aforesaid
medicines. A certificate, coming from so respecta
ble a source, cannot fell to hare its weight in thia
community. Ifthis medicine is found by experience
to offset ao immediate a cure of a complaint so nnln-
fel and diitreaaing, in would be highly valuable to
persona engaged in navigating steamboats on our
western riven. From their constant exposure to
the inclemency of the weather, and from the rapidi
ty oftheir transition ftom a cold to a warm climate,
and from a warm to a cold one, their ore peculiarly
liable to rheumatic attacks. To them this medicine
mayferove an invaluable remedy: one which they
can always keep on hand (or use as occuion may
taqeire.
It la aaid that a single doau of three pills, or two
dosea at most, will relieve a common cold. The
proprietor ofthe medicine, through a friend, was so
kind, a lew weeks ago, as to send us s bottle ofthe
bitters, and a box of the pills: and when afflicted
vrith a severe cold, we have derived apparently great
benefit ftom theft Use. We do not believe that nnv
tm uicine ever hu been or ever will bo discovered,
which, in serious complaints, will supercede the
necessity of the phyaiclan’e services, yet wo have

P OWELL’S Balsam of Aniseed, fur
Coughs, Colds, Shortness of Breath, Asthma,
Ac.—This invaluable medicino haa the extraordin
ary property of immediately relieving Coughs, Colds,
Hoarseness, difficulty of Breathing, and hurkiness
in the Throat. It operates by dissolving the con-
gealed phlegm, consequently causing a free expcc
toration. Those who are troubled with that unpfeas.
ant tinkling in the throat, which deprives them ol
rest night after night, by the incessant cough which
it provokes, will, by taking one dose, find immediate
relief; and one bottlo, in most cases, will effect a
cure. In asthma, chronic coughs, difficulty of
breathing, Ac. no pen can describe the wonders that
have been performed by thia invaluable medicine;
many, who for years, hate been unable to lay down
in their beds, without a danger of being choked by
an accumulation of phlegm, (which invariably causes
a droadfel cough); others who with difficulty could
breathe at all, in a recumbent posture, have, by tak
ing ono dose oftbia excellent Balaim, been enabled
to lay down comfortably in theft beds.
