of an affectionate husband and a kind and tender
parent, lie was a graduate of the South Carolina

still inquiry and the sales may have been larger.

Cotton nro not applicable to the Rice market, for
there lias been aome little stir in this article, and
prices have improved since our last all of a jc. per
1b., caused in n great measure by favorable in
telligence received from Northern nnd other mar
ket*. The sales thia week, for the reason of tho
year, have been good, fetching 830 tierces, which
were disposed o| as follow: 20 Borges' inferior nt

GROCERIES.—The business in the Grocery line

A N ORDINANCE—To restore the
office of Recorder of tho City nr Savannah,
to declare the duties ettachad to said office, nnd to
i'x the solnry.
Section I. Be it ordained by tho Mayor and Al
dermen of the City of Savannah and hamlets there
of in Council assembled, and it ia hereby ordained
by the authority of the same, That at the flrat reg
ular meeting or Council in September next, a tut
every second yenr thereafter, there shall bo elected
a Recorder of the City of Savannah, who shall hold
hie office for the term of two years, or until the
election of a successor.
Section 2. Bo it fortherordainod, by the authori
ty aforesaid, That the Recorder etinll lm tho legal
adWieraf Council, and it shall be his duty to at
tend to all the legal business of the City, forniah-
ing written opinions to Council whenever they may
be called for. It aliall alao be hiaduty when called
on by Council, or any of ita committees, to draft Or
dinances.
Section 3. Re it forther ordained by the author!-
ty aforesaid, That the salary of tho Recorder shall
he five hundred dollars per annum, payable quar
terly. ..
