Brooxlth, March 7,1846.
Dr. Townund: Dear Sir—I* the summer of
1845,1 waa aeverely afflicted with a diaeaae of the
thront, cheit and atnmach) the mucous membrano
becomo so affected that almost evory article or
food I took produced such a nausea, or irritation,
that it waa with great difficulty that 1 could retain
food. 1 confined myself almost entirely to the uae
of cocoa: even this I waa often obliged to throw off.
I can aeareely describe the horrid sensation I suf
fered: it appeared to mo, that from the roof of my
mouth to the lower part of my stomach waa ulcer
ated, and I waa apprehensive that 1 had not only
dyspepsia in ita worst form, but that 1 waa threat
ened with bronchitis. The disease became ao in
veterate, that it produced a rupture of a small blood
vessel. I was confined for several weeks, lost my
flesh, and felt weak and wearied by the least exer
cise. At thia time I fortunately saw your adver
tisement, snd recognised several names I knew to
be highly respectable and entitled to confidence.
I remembered to have seen Mr. Van Zandl, of Al
bany, for a number of yean in very bad health.
From those facts I was induced at first to procure
one bottle of your valuable preparation of Saraapa
rilla ln justice to yon,I (eel bound to assure you
thatl eatoem it nn invaluable medieine for such
diseases as i have described. It has restored mo
to health and strength) I have uaed about four bot
tles. To teat ita efficacy, after using ono or two
bottles, I omitted for some days to take it, and
■oon found that I required more, aa the disease was
not entirely subdued. I regard It a certain cure for
dyspepsia and affections of the throat and cheat) it
is soothing, and operates like a charm in composing
the stomach and allaying a cough. 1 intend in fu
ture to keep a bottle or two on hand for the uae of ono
my family. With great regard, ynur friend,
Law. L Yah Klreck.
Mr. Van Kleeek waa formerly Sheriff and Clerk
of Albany city and county, and recently in the War
Department at W^jington.
Bark Department, Albany, May 10,1045.
Dr l\twneend: Sir—I have been afflicted loi
■overal years wjUi dyspepsia in ita worst forms, At
tended with sourness orstomach, Inn of appetite
oxtreine heartburn, and a oro# aversion to all kindi
of food, and for woeks, (what I could eal) I have
been unablo to retain but a small portion on my
stomach. I tried the usual remedies, but they had
but tittle or no effect in removing the complaint.
I was induced about two months since, to try your
Extract Af Saraaparilla, and I must aay with little
confidence) but after using nearly two bottles, I
find my appetite restored, and the heartburn en
tirely removed) and I would earnestly recommend
the use of it to those who have been afflicted aa I
have boen.
Mr. HuMPHRRYi—Ae you desired me to Inform
yon what aueeeaa I had in using yonr Fever and
Ague Medicine in the ease of myself and husband,
I do with pleasure recommend it to th* public as
one ofthe beat medicinea (or the disease, and with
you aueeeaa in this discovery; Youra, respectfully,

OPINIONS OF THE PRESS.
The Press throughout the country, has apokon I
the most flattering terms of tho merits of DR.
TOWNSEND'S SARSAPARILLA. It will be
seen that the “opinions” aro from so|JjJj of the most
respectable editors in the Union :
From the Albany Evening Journal.
. Dr. Towntend'e Sarsaparilla. — Wo invite at
tention to the advertisement of Dr. Townsend, in
another column. We have frequently published
the certificates of our citizens, who have boon
cured of diseases by this popular remedy) those we
copy to-day are signed by gentlemen well known
to this community. Wo have no inclination to
praise indiscriminately all kinds of medieine; but
when we have indiapntablo evidence of tho virtue
of an article, wo are free to recommond it to the
notice ofthe public, and particularly to the afflicted.
From the New York Sun.
Our readers aro aware we seldom call their atten
tion, fo our editorial columns, to any of the numer
oua advertised remediea prescribecf for “ell evils
that flesh is heir to.” Our reasons aro obvioua:
Health ia of vital importance, and especially to
those who have disease, that wo require to be well
assured of the virtues of a medicine bofore we re
commend it to the two hundred thousand renders of
the Sun. Dr. Townaend'a Sarsaparilla haa boon
bofore tho public for a length of timo, snd ha* be
come deservedly populnr. The immenso and in
creasing demand for it, together with tho numer
ous certificates from gontlemon of tbo first respec
tability, who have been cured of chronic and other
diatroaaing diseases by uaing it, ia conclusive ev|-
dance of its valuable properties. We learn that it
is prescribed Hlra large number of physicians fo
the City and Brooklyn. YY<> advise our readers,
who have weakly children, or are afflicted with the
dyspopaia, rheumatism, or any cutaneous diaeaae,
to give ita trial.
From the Albany Daily Advertiser.
Dr. 'Ibwnsend’s Sarsaparula.—We publiah fo
another column, the certificate of several gentle
men, some of whom are personally known to ua,
who have been eured of distressing complaints by
the Uae of Dr. Townsend’s Compound Extract of
Saraaparilla. This medtonto hns been unusually
successful fo eradicating diseoso. Dr. T. assures
us that ft contains nothing that is injurious to tho
weakest constitution: what he states is corrobora
ted by tho fact that it has cured cutaneous disoases
in children, and at the samo timo improved their
general health. This ia evidonoed by the testimo
nials of respectable citixens, among whichix that
of tho Rev. Mr. Starke, pastor of the Division-at.
Methodist Church.
He has had additional certificates to th^aame ef
fect, which will be presented IVom time® time:
“This is to certify that 1 was subject tothe Fever
and Ague, for which I tried medical advice, and
Rowand’a Tonic Mixture, end other remedies, hot
none had the least effect. I was then recommended
to Mr. W. Humphreys, Jr.,‘ who cured me fo lexa
than twelve houfe, to whom I return my thanks, and
advise all afllicted aa above to try hia Medicine.
“Respectfully, John N. Spearing.

Aro we not Individually called upon, when we
become furnished with any knowledge which, by
more extended dilfosion, will promote the happf.
ness and welfare of those around us, to make
knpwn without hesitation such means of relief and
comfort 1 Feeling this to be my duty, I would di
rect the attention or those distressed with Fever
and Ague to the greatVbtility of Mr. Wm. Hum
phreys’ Fevor and Ague Medicine in that trouble
some complaint. Besides having been restored to
universal health and vigor myself, 1 have bad an
opportunity of witnessing mother remarkable in
stance or recovery from the use ol it, in one ofthe
worl&rnses. I hnvo tried a great many different
remedion, but nll«in vain. I was reduced fronft
strong healthy man, to almost a mere skeleton. 1
had almost given up that 1 would get rid of the
complaint, but at last I saw Mr. Wm. Humphreys,
Jr’s advertisement, and tried his Fever and Ague
Medicine, and l am nuw enjoying good health,
and lam now gaining my atrength very test, and
I recommend it to tho publio qs a good and simple
remedy for the Fever end Ague. My chief object
in (his communication is to acquaint every indivi
dual, who has suffered under the above obstinate
and too often serious disease, with the virtues of
the above valuable Medicine. Also to render
thanke to tho proprietor for hie benovolent exer
tions to spread still further ita usefulneea, despite
tho selfish charges of courtety and presumption.

Catharine Reilly.
I certify that the a^ove certificates are correct—
ie of thorn it my brother and the other a relation,
nnd with tho greatest pleasure 1 recommend this
Medicine to tne public. The two cues are truly
altoniahing eases. We tried a great many reme
dies fml medicines, but found no relief until the
nbnve named gentleman waa recommended to us.
Both of the named persona used this valuable rem
edy, nnd tre now enjoying good health, being cured
in the short timo or twenty-four hotfrs.

for that troublesome disease, as my Mother and
