XJL Savannah into Fire Districts, and to provide for
giving the alarms of Fire.
Section 1—BoHordnlncd by the Mayor and Aldermen
of the City of Savannah and Hamlets thoofin Council as
tembled, and it is hereby ordained by tho authority of the

the Cupola of the Exchange, at die occurrence of Fire,
first to give a general alaim, by ringing the Exchange Bell
continuously, for K space of time not exceeding two
minutes duration, and then to designate tlie District where
such fire may occur, by ToBlng ths bell for tire Fiist Dis
trict—Striking Twice with short Intervals for tho Second
DDMct—silking Three Times with short intervals for
the Third District—sulking Four Times with short Inter
vals for ths Fourth District, and Striking Five Times with
short intervals for the Firth DiaUlcL Bald ringing and
tolling orthe Exchange Bell to continue for a spr.ee or time
not exceeding thirty minutes duration, when It shall cease.
Provided, nevertheless, That If during the prevalence of
one fire In any part of the City, there vhould occur a fir*
in another part ortlie City, then and (n that ease, it shall
be tire duty ofth# Watchman In tire Cupola of the Ex
change, to designate the Ulsulci where such second fir*
may occur, by tolling and striking the Exchange bell la

Section 3.*—Be it further ordained by the authority,
aforesaid, That It shall be the duty of the Officers of lira
Watch, to cause the alarm of fire to be extended, by ring
ing the Bell of the “ Guaid House,” wtthout cessation,
from the discovery of any fire in tha City, till the same,
shall be subdued.
Section 4— Be it further ordained, That It shall be the
duty of the Officers of the Fire Company, and of the City
Watch, toranort all neglects of the duties required by the
provisions or this Ordinance, and upon conviction before
the Police Court of Savannah, aueh offender ao convicted
shall be fined iu a sum not exceeding Ten Dollars, or be
dismissed Trom senior.
Section S—Be It forther ordained by the authority
aforesaid, That all Ordinances, or parts of Ordinance#
militating agxinil tho above provirions of tidrOrdinance,

city of Savannah which by contract are (object to dry
culture, is a violation of tlie true Intent and meaning of
the said contract, and fa prohibited by the ordinances of
the city, and is manifestly Injurious to the health or the
citizens; and whereas power is vested in the Mayor and
Aldermen of the city of Savannah and tlie hamlets there
of, by Act of the General Assembly, to carry Into frdl effect
the system of dry culture, and to remove aU nuisances or
or causes of disease which may effect the health of the
citizens; and whereas, It Is the right and has become the
duty of the City CouncU to exert the powers thus confer
red upon them, for the pnbllc good.

said Rice if growing, or to appear before CouncU at a time
and place In such notice to be specified, not exceeding
