to the alleged eases of Cholera on board the

" On Tuesday last, another of tho hands of the

character, indicating a state of collapse, the body
being cold and pulseless; and, notwithstanding
every effort was made to iuduco reaction, the pa

tlon” to this paragraph—^a statement which we
make upon the authority of Capt. Dixon. On
the arrival of tho Jatper at tho quarantine ground
on Tuceday last,” she was boarded by tho “Port
Physician,” who, aflcr an examination of ihe
case referred to in the foregoing extract, pro
nounced it In tho prcsenco of Capt. Dixon and
other gentlemen, nol to be a cate of Cholera. It
was not dven considered a dangerous ease. Anx
ious, however, to give an cxamplo of what the
City Authorities would do, In tho event they
were fortunate enough to overtake a real cose of
Cholera, the negro in question was pot into
an open boat and rowed some eight or nine
miles in tho broiling sun to the lazaretto,—
There ho was consigned to the keeper of the petl-
house, who is generally tho scapegoat of all man
ner of disease, cholera, amali-pox, yellow fever,
elal. ad infinitum. During all this time no effort
Was made to relieve the negro that we learn of.

then calling it cholera, when perhaps he died from
sheer neglect. We will only remark, no one
will bo surprised that be died under the circum
stances, however harmless tho disease with which
he was attacked. Tho only wonder is, Ibat lie
lived as long os be did.
The negro, however, first complained of sickness
in Charleston. The Jatper came on to Savannah
and again returned to Charleston, when the "Port
Physician" examined him, pronounced it not to
bo a case of cholera, but had him sent to die
lazaretto, whore he died, of course. If, therefore,
be bad cholera, he is indebted to Charleston for it.
So much for tho tragedy—now for the farce.
Prepare yourself to laugh, dear reader, for you
cannot help it when we tell you, that the war
like authorities of our chivalrous sister city con
stantly keep at the quarantine ground a small
• schooner, or craft of some sort, armed with men
and munitions of war, to watch the Savannah
boat* and to prevent the introduction of cholera
into Charleston from* place where it docs not
sxlstBut this is not all. A small boat with
Warriors, provided with pislolaaud olber weop>ns
of death, is rowed around the said Savannah
steamers all night, lest some one should escape
tho shore and storm the city with cholera. Shades

Panza l Arise and avenge yourselves upou these
usurpersof your world renowed chivalry. Galen
and AStculapius met disease with anodynes; it
has been reserved for modern times to meet it
with iron and powder, and armed ships.
Arrested.—An old sinner, who call* himself
Basma McKinnb, was arrestod Saturday night,
with 4 slaves and 2 free persons of color, while
playing at cards.. He was examined yesterday
bjfore a Magistrate and committed to Jail to
await bla trial at the next term of tho Superior
Court. The negroes were punished according to
the law “In such eases made and provided.”
Flobipa Troubles.—We learn from an extra
of the Floridian, that Gov. Mosely has taken
prompt measure* for the protection of tho people
in the vicinity of the Indian settlements. An ex
press loft on the 25til, requiring tho Colonel of
Duval county lo raise a company of mounted
men who are to repair immediately to the scene
of the outrage. A detachment of the Company of
U. 8. Artillery, at present stationed at St. Augus
tine, has been sent by the commanding officer to
Indian River, and other points on the coast.
Wo may mention in this connection, that we
have been informed Capt. Anderson of this city
has been instructed by the Wor Department to
hold himself in readiness to proceed to Florida,
should it be found necessary to order him thither.
Late and Important from Texas.—The late
accounts from Texas arc unusually interesting.
There seems no longer to bo any doubt in that
quarter that a general Indian war is at band.—
Tho Indians in the region of Laredo nnd along
the Rio Grande to within 16 miles of Brownvillc,
havo been committing the most cruel depreda
tions,killing women and children,burning houses,
stealing horses and destroying the growing crops.
A train had been attacked near Laredo and 13
men killed, The greatest uneasiness and ularm
prevail throughout the Western and North-Wes
tern part of Texas. The papers attribute the re
cent incursions to tho defenceless condition in
which the country was left at the conclusion of
tho war.
Lieutenant John Booker, of tho 8tb Infantry
wus killed in San Antonio by being thrown from
hU horse. Wo deeply regret also to notice the
death of brevet Major Colunson R. Gates, of the
Sth Regiment U. S. Infuntry, who died at Freder
icksburg on tho 2Sth ult., of Cholera. Major
G atr.H was a bravo und galinnt officer, nnd served
with distinction in the Flrorida war, and also in
the Mexican war, at Rasaca do la Falina, where
hu waa severely wounded. As soon as ho recover
ed from Ida wound, lie joined Scott’s wing of
the army, and boro n gallant part in the capturo
of the City of Mexico.
Yury great excitement prevails on tho opposito
side of the Rio Grande, inconsequence of a recent
pronunciamento by Paredes in favor of Santa An
na. A revolution la expoctcd to break out vory
soon in the Northern or Sierra Madre provinces,
tho object of which ta to establish an in
