WEDNESDAY MORNING, A UGUST I. "
# FOR GOVERNOR OF GEORGIA,
EDWARD Y. HILL,
Of Troup Comity.
Auction on (Ac First Monday in October next.
Will Judob Hill as Elected ?— 1 Tho accounta
from various part* of tho State in relation to tho
prospect* of our candidate, Edwaed Y. Hill, are
or tho moat cheering character. Hia nomination
haa been responded to every where in tho moat
enthusiastic manner. A true gentleman, poa*
sotting popular nianuers and brilliant parU,
and nn advocate for building up the great Aomc
interests of Georgia, and making her one of the
firat State* in the Union, hia selection by the Con*
vention haa been ratified by the great Whig
party of the State in a manner which leave*
no doubt of bis auccasa. In the large and popu
lous counties on tho Chstishoochle, throughout
North-western Georgia, and the Coweta and Oc*
mulgee circuits, whera he is personally well
known, hia prospect* are truly flattering. That
the Eastern and Southern counties will give him
asatronga votes* they did Gen. Taylob, there
la no reason to doubt. We may add, the seaboard
will do Its duty. Our last candidate hailed from
this latitude, and though we did not elect him,
we have not forgotten the generous support ex
tended to him throughout the section from whence
our present nomlnoe comes. The Seaboard there
fore, responds to the Mountains, and the Savan
nah River to the ChatUhoochle—we know our
duty and shall do it I
One of the moat gratifyinjf facta connected with
the nomination of Judge Hill was tho support
which he received in the Convention from every
part of the State. The Eastern and Weat#n, the
Northern and Southern counties were noarly
equally unanimous in their advocacy of his nomi
nation. Tht* fact apeak* well foi his success.
But we have been aakod by opposition journals,
why turn out Gov. Towns ? They say he has

The (eneral appearance of the crops of Geoiflahas Im
proved considerably within the last month. The droughth
then prevailing has been succeeded by heavy rains, and
In some parts of the 8taie there Is much complaint of an
excess. The Com crop Is now neatly made, and will be
very abundant; tbe quantity has been much Increased
by replanting Cotton lands after tbe frost in April. The
Cotton crop must neeessartly be a abort one j the season
Is late, end the recent severe rains have seriously in
jured the bolls now forming, and with an early frost the
crop would be very short indeed. The excess of rain baa
been noticed in ever}’ Cotton growing State, and ln some
placus tho gnus lias nearly destroyed the Cotton.

the same period have been 91^284 bales Upland, and 693

Islands at same timo last year.
The receipts since 1st September exceed those of last
year 179,167 balca, and the exports 173,335 bales.
For our letter sheet prices current we review the mai-
ket for a month and find that since the first of July there
has been a steady Improvement, end every arrival from
Europe has had the tendency to advance prices. We
now find our quotations fully l*c. higher than they were
on the 97th of June, the time of our last Issue. The
advance is partly caused by the smallness of tho stock In
the shipping ports of the United States j partly by the
poor prospect for the next crop; but may be more panic-
ularly‘ascribed to the good demand at Liverpool, tbe
■ales for tho last week re ported amounting to 83,000 bales.
Trade In tho manufacturing district* of England waa also
in a healty nnd prosperous state.
The sales In our marketduring tbe past week amounted
to about 1,000 bales, most of which was sold on Friday
nnd Saturday last. We hear of no sales of importance
this week and the market closed unsettled, particularly
for (Ur Cotton, some lots being held at 10* and none be
low 10 eta. Our quotations for other qualities are as fol-
