Afciirs. EditonA correspondent at Palatka,
writing on tho 30lh, states that an express had
reached there from Tampa, bringing intelligence
ofthe arrival of Gen. Twiocs, with a body of
troops. Indians have been seen about Eopopka,
but have shown no warlike disposition so far.
Two steamers were daily expected with the ro-
maindcr of the7th Infantry. Yours, D.
Melancholy Occurrence.—A gentleman from
Upson County informs ua, that Mr. Hbnry Platt,
of Philadelphia, a travelling agent of several
newspapers and periodicals, was killed near
Thomaston, last Monday, under tbo most mcl
aneboly circumstance*. Ho had left Thomaston
in bis sulkey, and proceeded eix or seven miles
on bis way, when a decayed tree standing near
the toad fell upon him, breaking his back in three
places, also bis neck, an arm and a teg, and
killing his horse. At the time of the occurrence,
there was no wind abroad or cloud above; with
out one word of warning the poor man was hur
ried into eternity, unconscious even of the cause
of his sudden death. Was It the result of acci
dent or fate ? or was lit the decro* of an insert!
table Providence ? A man who wo* born in a
distant part of the country happens to be at a
particular spot in Western Georgia, on a certain
day, at a certain hour, aye, at a certain moment}
and at that instant a tree, which had been bat
tling the storms of Ileavcu for perhaps a century,
falls in the “stillness of noon-day," and crushes
him to death I The coincidence is as mysterious
os his fate is melancholy.

Another Church Constituted.—The Atlanta

designate themselves aa * Christiana, 1 and who
