Registry Law for tho City of Savannah.
AN ACT to amend nn not entitled on net umoudatory or
and in addition to tho various acts, heretofore passed in
reference to the city of Savannah, approved December
8ib, 1840, to allow an appeal to u Special Jury in tho
Superior Court of Clmtlmm County, from any decision
msdo under tho sixth section of that net, uud also to
provide for tho registry of the names of uil persons en
titled ttf vote for Mayor and Aldcrmoti of said city; and
to prevent persons from voting for such Mayor and Al-
dermon whoso names uro not registered.
8kc. 1. lie it enacted by the Senate and House of Rrpre-
•entatieu of the State of Georgia, in General Assembly
met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same,
That when any decision or Freeholders shall hereafter bo
nude under tho sixth section 6rthe said net of Decombor
8th, 1849, the owner or owners of land affected by bucI:
decision, shall have tho right to appeal therefrom to a
special Jury In the Superior Court of Chatham county,
nod the verdict of such Jury shall bo (Inal aud conclusive
In the premises.
Szc. 9. He it further enacted lu the authority of
tie same, That from and after tho pnssago o( this
act all persona shall bo qualllled to vote at elections
for Mayor and Aldermen of tho city of Savannah and
Ihe hamlets thereof who are citizens of tho United
Sates have resided in tho Stato of Georgia for ono
year immediately preceding tho election and within
tho corporate limits of Savannah for ono month immedi
ately preceding their registration and continue so to do
up to tho time of election, who havo attained tho ago of
twenty-one years, havo paid nU city taxes or havo In
their own right sufficient real cstato to satisfy any tax ex
ecutions which may be against thorn, who huvo inudo nil
returns required by tho ordlnnucos of tho city, and
lure been registered according to tho provisions of
this act.
8tc. 3d. Be it further enacted by the authority afore-
nid, Ttiat tho Clerk of thu Common Council of tho
City of Savanunh, and In enso of his sickness or ab
sence, any officer duly elected and appointed by thu
Mayor and Aldermen or a majority of them, for that pur
pose shull open n list for tho registration of voters on
the first Monday In January in each and ovory your, which
list shall be kept open until two o’clock P. M. on tho first
Monday in September onsuing when it shall bo finally
ami absolutely closed.
•Sec. 4. Be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid,
That it shall bo tho duty of such Clerk or officer, upou tho

to vote as aforesaid, within tho timo prescribed for
the list to bo kept open, to register tho name of such per
son and deliver to him n certiflcato of such registry, ex
pressing his name, number, and tho dato of registry.

That such clerk or otiior officer ahull bo authorized to ro-
S uire any applicant for registration to make an affidavit

8ec. 0. Be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid,
That it shall bo tho duty of such clerk or other officer, to
arrange and publish a list of the names so registered, In
alphabetical order, In ono of the gazettes of the city of Sa
vannah at least onco a month, from tho first Monday in
January, to tho first Monday in October, in each your, and
and once a week from tho first Monday In October to the
first Monday In December, and to affix und keep an ub
phabetrcal printed list or such names at tho door or tho
Court House oftho County of Chatham, and of the Ex-
clungo In tho city of Savannah, from tho first Monday in
October to tho Tuesday after tho first Monday in Decem
ber In every yonr.
8sc. 7lh. Be it further enacted by the authority afore-
laid, That each voter ui tho timo of giving ids vote shall
produce and surrender to tho presiding Magistrates Ids
certilicato of registry, and no person unprovided with
such certilicato shall, under uuy circumstances, bo per
mitted to voto.
Sec. 8th. Be it further enacted by the authority afore-

eale tho Clerk or otiior officer shall be authorised to i*-
»uo a duplicate at any timo before two o’clock P. M. of

o administer the following oath to any person attempt

duzen of tho United States; thut you havo resided in
the suite of Georgia for ono your immediately pro-
ceding this election, and within tho corporate limits of
