Registry Law for the City of Savannah,
AN ACT to amend an aet entitled an act amendatory of
and In addition to the various acts, heretofore passed In
reference to the dly of Savannah, or ■
8th, 1840, to allow an appeal to a £
Superior Court of Chatham County,
made under the sixth section of that act, i
provide for the registry of the names or all persons en
titled to vote for Mayor and Aldermen of sold city; and
to prevent persoua (Tom voting for such Mayor and Al*
dermcn whose names are not registered.
Ssc. 1. Bo it enacted by the 8*naie and Ueuee of Repre-
otnUtlooe of tho Stole of Georgia, in General Aeeembly
«tty and it la hereby enacted by the authority of the tame.
That when any decision of Freeholders shafl hereafter be
mule under the sixth section of the said act of December
8th, 1810, the owner or owners or land afibeted by such
decision, shall have the right to appeal therefrom to a
special Jury In the Superior Court of Chatham county,
sod the verdict of such Jury shall be final and conclusive
la the premises.
Bsc. 3. Be it further enacted by the authority of
the tame, That from snd after too passage of this
set all persons shall be qualified to vote at elections
for Mayor snd Aldermen of tho city of Savannah and
the hamlets thereof who are citizens of the United
States, have resided In the Stale of Georgia for one
year Immediately preceding tho election and within
the corporate limits of Savannah for one month Immodl-
stely preceding their registration and' continue so to do
up to the time or election, who have attained the age of
twenty-one years, have: paid oil city taxes or have In
their own right sufficient real estate to satisfy any tax ex
ecution* which may bo against them, who have made all
returns required by the ordinances or tho city, nnd
have been registered according to tho provisions of
this act.
Ssc. 3d. Bt it further enacted by the authority afore-
tail, That the (aerie of the Common Council or the
dly of Savannah, and In case or his sickness or ab
sence, any officer duly elected and appointed by the
Blsyor and Aldermen or a majority of them, for that pur*
poae shall open a list for tho registration of voters on
the first Monday In January In each and every year, which
ll<t shall be kept open until two o’clock P. M. on tho first
Monday In Beptembcr ensuing when It aball be finally
and absolutely closed.
