Candidates for admission Into the Scientific Course
must sustain-a satisfactory examination on Geography,
Arithmetic, English Grammar, Simple Equations In
Algebra, and two books In Geometry; and must be at
least sixteen years of ago.

tification thereof, within the meaning of the act of 1840,
and his bid will bo made and accepted ta conformity with

Evory offer made must be accompanlod fas directed In
tbe net of Congress making appropriations for the naval
service for 184(p47, npproved loth August, 1840) by a
written guaranty, signed by oue or more responsible per
sons, to the effect that ho or they undertake that the bid
der or bidders will, If his or their bid be accepted, enter
into an obligation within five days, with good and suffi
cient sureties, to tarnish the supplies proposed. Tho Bu
reau will not be obligated to consider any proposal un
less accompanied by tho guaranty required by law: tho
competency of tho guaranty to bo certified by tho Navy
Agent, District Attorney, or somo officer of the General
Government known to tae Bureau.
