the Inventor of this Furnace first abandoned tha manu

since, under the seUled conviction that red-hot Iron fur

healthy, scorching, disagreeable odor, unfit to be Inhaled
by human beings; besides the constant cracking and
burning out or the pots, which permits the poisonous

thoroughly warming and ventilating buildings, has been
entirely successful. They posteas the following advan-

Association for tho Exhibition of aU Nations,
Wet, No. 63 Uroadmen, Now* York, ’
October II, 1852.
I ADDRESS yon. on behalf of the Association for the
Exhibition of the Industry of all Nations, to Invlls
your co-operation In the general objects or the enter
prise.
[■ The building Intended for the purposes of the ExhlbL
lion, constructed entirely of Iron and glass, will be. It Is
believed, the largest and most beautiful edifice in the
country. U covers, on the ground floor, two and a half
acres, and, with the galleries, the whole spaee Is Tour
acres. The mason work Is far advanced, and It Is to be
completed on the 21st October. The main part of the
ltou work Is contracted for, and the castings are to be de
llvored from the 15Ui October to the JStb of December.
We have It In our power, therefore, to assure you. as wo
have already stated to too public, that the Exhibition
will certainly be <mened on the 2d of May, 1853.
Ypu are thus offered an unequalled opportunity of ex
hibiting to the vast population of this country such of
your productions as you send us, free of all charge, of
every kind whatever, from the time that they are deliver
ed Into our custody until withdrawn,
Tho Association has already announced that their ob
jects are limited exclusively to exhibition. They hare
no Interest whatever, direct or Indirect, In the final dis
position to bo inado of any article that may be displayed.
You ere, no doubt, aware that we have received all the
assistance from the public authorities that we have do*
aired. The City has given us tho lease of Reservoir
Square, the State has granted ua a charter, and the Fede
ral authorities have engaged that tho building shall be
made a Bonded Warehouse Ibr tho purpose or receiving
foreign articles without paying duty ro long aa they re
main In It.
We havo the strongest assurances of support from the
representatives, In this country* or the principal Foreign
Powers; and we are receiving dally confirmation of tho
general interest that the subject is exciting among the
manufacturers of Europe. A large numbcrorarticlea of
high valuo ore already secured, and we have no doubt
whatever that we shall have a very extensive represent
ation of all the bronchos of foreign Industry.
Tho measures which wo havo adopted will, thus, se
cure two great objects wo have desired to attain, vlx
the erection of a building which will be a great architect
ural ornament to our city, and the exhibition, In tbst
building, of tho products of the industry of the Old
World; still, we snail fall far short of our mark If we do
not oqually succeed In obtaining the fullest and most ex
tensive co-oporallonof Amorlcan Industry. Our Exhibi
tion would be extremely defective—It would be very In
ferior, both In Interest and In utility, to wbat we mean to
make It—If the great resources of the people of our own
ounlry were hot fully displayed In It.
We beliove it to be unnecessary to urge upon yon the
arguments on this subject which we are sura will pre
sent themselves to the mind of every Intelligent American
producer—your position In tho world of American Indus
try, your own Interest, and wbat is due to an enterprise
devised and meant to be chrried out with no narrow
views, but on a large acalo of publlo usefulness—all
entitle us to entertain the fullest couvlctlon that you
will semi us some of the choicest specimens of your
skill, and that you will urge your friends to do the sarno.
We do uot doubt that such will be the result when the
subject Is once brought fairly and frilly before you; and
our only reason for addressing you thus particularly Is,
that the mailer may not be overlooked in the press of
dally business, and that you may give tho subject atten
tion In llmo to be fully prepared.
We enclose our General Circular, and also a form of
Application for Space, to which we beg your attention.
Copies of these, or or this letter, tr you destre them to
send to your friends or correspondents, can be bad at
this office.
In order that we may know on what extent or co-ope
ration wo may depend, tho favor of a reply on or before
tho 1st day or January is asked.
I have the honor to be,
With great respect,
Your obediont servant,
THEODORE SEDGWICK,
aug 23—th 4mos President,
Also,

ts application to the Gang Saw frame. The Engine
stands immediately underneath the Sash, to which the
Piston Rod Is directly attached. The motion of the Bash
Is thus directly controlled by the steam In the cylinder,
and by the Introduction ol this at a particular poiut, the
force of both the up and downward stoko (usually fall
ing with such Jarring effects on the plumber blocks aud
wrist pins,) Is entirely arrested, the Bash being thus al
ways suspended as II were on the stcain, relieving there
by the Journals and wrist (so llablo to heat in tho usual
application) of all heating tendency. By virtue of this
