Dr. Aver—In the month of July lasb I was attacked
by a violent dlarrhcea In tho mines or California. 1 re*
urned to Ban Francisco In hope of reoclvlng benefit

mi was followed by n severe cough and much soreness.

the voyage. My cough continued to grow worse, and
when 1 arrived In Now-York I was at once marked by
my acquaintances as a victim of consumption. 1 must
confess that I saw no sufficient reason to doubt what my
