Tho steamer Julia St. Clair departed on Saturdiy
evening last for Augusta, with a freight of 800 bbls.

which recently arrived with a cargo of over 1,500
barrels. Tho stock of this vegotablo being very
scarce in our market, her cargo xvas readily sold,,

Stato advertised for tho recovery of $1195 which he
hud lost in tho streets of Savannah. Tho advertise
ment met tho oyo of Rev. Father Prcndergast, who
ut once sought the owner and rulurnod tho largo
roll of bills, stating that two orphan boys under his
chargo had found the money and desired to return
it to its lawful owner. The names of theso two
modul and exemplary youths aro John Brady and
John Gordon, and wo have no doubt tho fortunato
owner has ere this manifested his gratitudo in sorno
tangible form. The upright conduct of these boys,
while honoring them, certainly reflects great credit

bound from Bermuda to this port in ballast, went

hor this morning with stoarn pumps and other
necessary apparatus f-.r freeing her from water, and
extricating her from her dangerous position.
Tho ship lies very easy, and should the weather
prove favorable will be got off without difficulty.

arrived here as u “general" recruit to tho Sixteenth
United States Infantry, stutiouod at this post, com
mitted suieido at G o'clock Saturday evening, at
tho Post Hospital, Ogletlvrpo Barracks. It ap
peared that the man was laboring under temporary
aberration of mind, and had been watched very
closely, but by some means ho succeeded in gelling
possession of a knife, with which bo stubbed himself
to tho heart, and died in a short time He exhibited
signs of mental aberration during the voyage hero.
Ho is from North Carolina, is married, and leaves n
wife and two childr-n. He was buried yesterday in
Laurel Grove Cemetery.
