Tompleton, the manager of the Augusta Theatre, an nounces that he will present the magnifi cent masterpiece, entitled “Maeeppa.” For several days “Black Bess’’ has paraded th* streets labelled “Katk Raymond.” This lady is indefatigable in her efforts to please, and as she considers this her great play, we hope a large audience will show their appreciation. The Savannah Advertiser, while this company was performing in that city, uses the following language, which we repro duce in this connection. “Tho ladies, and also the children, should not be denied tho pleasure of witnessing the performance of “Mazeppa.” Mothers, fathers, guardians, all who can, send your little prattlers to see “Mazeppa.” It will fumian them food for reflection, put them in good humor; and our word tor it, for the nest ten days to come you will be amply repaid in hearing them chirp their glad praises of the sprightly little “Mazep pa,” and his wonderful steed.” Mnrdcr Trial in Elfcert Count*. Eleven negroes were arraigned, last week, in Elbert County Superior Court, Hon. Wm. M. Reese, presiding, for the murder of Mr. Allen, an assistant of the Town Marshal of Elberton, in breaking up a ball in which the negroes were engaged, about two months’since. Ten were acquitted—not a particle of evidence being found against them. One was found guilty of man slaughter, but the verdict was so contrary to evidence that the Judge granted anew trial. All the proof went to show that the killing was iu selt-defence. [Mr. Chase has heretofore appeared iu the Senate clothed in the regalia of his high office] Mr. Drake was finally laughed down. Adjourned. North Carolina. Raleigh, March 21.—An article in the Raleigh Sentinel, of to-day, prepared wo learn from official data, estimates the pub lic debt of North Carolina, under tho new Constitution, to bo on the Ist of July, 1869, $19,476,500, the interest on which—due on that day—will be $851,000, which is order ed to bo paid by the Convention be sides. This article also shows that the additional tax upon the people of the State required to be raised next year, under tile new Constitution, will be $985,000, both of which being added to the present taxes, will swell the taxes to be raised for 1869, by the impoverished people of this State, to the enormous sum of $2,600,000, These disclosures make the people stand aghast! It is universally contended that it can not be done ; and the enormous taxation alone, if nothing else, will make the people reject the new Constitution. Healing th.e Sick BT THE LAYING ON OF HANDS, OR ANIMAL MAGNETISM! PROFESSOR ROBERTS, LATE OF NEW Orleans and Memphis, the great Magnetic Healer, will treat all manner of Diseases and Afflictions, not incurable, at the AUGUSTA HOTEL, Angnsta, Ga., until May Ist, 1868. By Animal Magnetism we claim that the dis eased and deranged action of the nervous and vacnlar systems are restored to a perfect equilib rium much more readily than by any other means known to the medical world, either in the present or the past ages. ‘ Nature must do the healing,” is the saying of every sensible and honest physi cian, ana that “all we can do in case of sickness is to aid Nature.” This Prof. Roberts aims to do by the great science of Animal Magnetism, and that, too, withont drags I It is the only system of the medication that has God as its antbority and example, or that can be sustained by science or common sense. Consultation free. Letters to be answered must be accompanied with a stamp. For testimonials see or send for circular. Prof. Roberts treats successfully the following named diseases, together with many other forms of human maladies not herein specified, viz: All diseases of the Brain, Rheumatism, Nervons Debility, Neuralgia, Weak Spine, Curvature of the Spine, Inflamed Sore Eyes, Paralysis, Weak Eyes, Partial Blindness, Dropsical Tumors,Ulcers, Scrofula in its varied forms, Consumption, Dia betes, Weakness of the Limbs, Bronchitis, Loss of Voice, Palpitation of the Heart, Diseases of the Liver, Kidneys, and Bowels, Dyspepsia, Falling of the Womb, Suppressed Menses. Catarrh, all kinds of Sexual Diseases, Impurities of the Blood, etc., etc. Paralysis and Deafness are the most uncertain of all diseases to enre, although patients afflicted even with these terrible maladies will be more or less benelltted, if not cured, by Magnetic Treatment. GREAT TRIUMPH OF ANIMAL MAGNET ISM IN AUGUSTA !—“ OLD FOGYISM” AND THE ENEMIES OF TRUTH GET A “REGULAR” NORTHWESTER. Augusts, Ga., March 12,1868. I hereby certify that I have been partially para lyzed for four yearß. Four months of that time I was not able to make a step, or even so much as move one of my toes on either foot, and was en tirely destitute of feeling in my legs. I was examined by forty eight Confederate Army Snrgeone, all pronouncing me incurable— having Curvature of the Spine, which produced paralysis. I commenced taking treatment of Pro fessor Roberts, March 4th, 1868, and now, after taking nine treatments, by Animal Magnetism, I feel like a “new creature!” I can now stand up, and walk any desired distance, without crutches or canes, which was utterly impossible for more than four years before seeing Dr. Roberts. For reputation and responsibility, I refer those interested to Mr. W. A. liamsey. Mr. Edward Rodgers, Mr. JohnM. Clark, Mr. Nicholas Young blood, and Mr. John Houston, all of Angnsta, Ga. My address is Edgefield Courthouse. S. C. [Signed] A. SHARPTON, Jr. Professor Roberts will heal the sick at Augusta Hotel, until May Ist, 1868. Augusta, Ga., Feb. 29th, 1868. This is to certify that I have been treated by Prof. Robeits for a dropsical tumor iu tlie left side, with which I have been afflicted for the last seven years, and am confident that I am entirely cured, not having experienced any of the unpleasant symptoms which I did before the treatment, and this by animal magnetism. MARTHA A. GORDON. I am cognizant ot all the facts contained in the above statement, the lady having been a member of my family for a number of years. ANDREW G. LaTASTE. AugustaTlotfl, Augusta, Ga. 1 March 6th, 1868. ) This certifies that I have been a great sufferer with Rheumatism for five years, my left ankle being muoh swollen, very stiff and painful. I was treated twice only by Dr. Roberts, at the Augusta Hotel, February 18th and 20th, 1868, and now have not one symptom of Rheumatism or pain in my body. All the medicine I had taken seemed so make me worse, and I never had any relief until I was treated magnetically. People may laugh ; bnt I have no more rheumatic pains—that’s so. I work in the Augusta Hotel. [Signed | NANCY MASON. Atlanta, Ga., Feb. 12,1865. I have been a hopeless invalid for the weary space of ten or twelve years, laboring under a combination of dreadful diseases which nave long since been pronounced inenrab.». I had of late frown rapidly worse, until three days since I was rought to this city on a bed, being entirely nimble to sit np, for the purpose of consulting the far famed Prof. Roberts. After the first treatment, which was only a few minutes, I was free of all pain and able to walk anywhere, aud to-day I feel so well and strong I can scarcely realize that I am the same being who was so feeble and suffer ing so much three days since. I can never express my heartfelt gratitude to the man whose wonder ful skill has thus relieved me of 60 much inexpres sible suffering. May God bless the Doctor wherever he goes, is my humble prayer. [Signed] Mrs. J. H. NASH, Lovejoy’s Station, Georgia. Atlaxta, Ga., Feb. 5,1868. To whom it may concern: This will certify that, for eight months past I have been afflicted with Neuralgia in the right side of the face, and most of the time suffered most excruciating pain, during which time I have sought relief in vain from the regular medical profession ; aud I further certify that I was relieved tho first time 1 was treated by Prof. Roberts, aud apparently perrna ueutly cured after being treated the third time. I most confidently recommend him to all similarly afflicted. J. B. LANIER. Atlasta, Ga., March 7th, 1868. Dr.Jt.lt. Roberts .-—This is to certify that I have, for five yean past, beeu afflicted with goitre. Physicians pronounced it incurable , and from them I obtained no relief, but upon the con trary continued to grow worse, until treated by you four times, by Animal Magnetism, in January and February, 1868, since which time it has almost disappeared, and I am entirely relieved from suf fering with it. I am very kindly, yours, forever, gned] J. p. PUGH. Witness to the above: Col. R. J. COWART. Atlanta, Ga., March 3d, 1868. This certifies that I have suffered exceedingly with a large tumor on the left side of my face for twenty-five years. During this age of torture it has been removed twioe by paiufuf surgical opera tions, which only seemed to aggravate its growth. When Dr. Roberts came to Atlanta I took treat ment by Animal Magnetism, and have been greatly benefitted by him—m point of truth, more than by the entire twenty-seven “regular” doctors who have attended me. Under the treatment, the tnmor softened and re duced in size, the hearing in mv left ear has been restored, and my left arm, which was almost use less, has been restored to its original strength. I can now sleep on my left side—a thing I could not do for many years before. I firmly believe if I could continue the treatment the tnmor would entirely disappear. Mrs. J. G. McLIN.
