Those who will not allow laborers to work for a living, will have to contribute to their support in the way ol taxation. nit: TKM iuxfit' of rut: eua nos. We suppose there has never been an election in Georgia which has so much deceived the calculations of everybody as the one iu-t passed, thi the one hand, the opponents of Its t.i.oi k and the Constitu tion took it for granted that the counties where the colored vo‘e was tile largest were certain to vote against the “white ninn's partv : ' and, ot course, they tliougnt it useless to restrain themselves from abusing and libelling the colored voters: conciliation was needless Middle Geor gia was mostly given up to "nigger- and -ealawags: and the editorials of tluir papers and the addresses ol their itineraut orators wen directed entirely to the rally ing of the white min to the Democratic banner. They labored assiduously for a division of parties founded on the dis tinction of races. How has it resulted .' In some of the counties having a large negro population the Democrats have managed to secure a majority. It may be saiil that this result was arrivyd at by fraud, intimidation, and bribery; but that immaculately virtuous factiou have never been know n to resort to illegal voting, ballot box stuffing,or fraud, to earn tin election. All violence and corruption have always been committed by their quiet and law abiding opponents, w lietlicr NVhigs, Union men. or Republi cans. AN e care not how the majorities in those counties, like Houston, were ob tained, or liow it Happened that the vote against tin- Constitution and tile Constitu tional candidate for Governor in other counties was increased far beyond the registered colored vote- the tact remains indi.-putublc that that vote lias exceeded the expectations of the -Democratic calcu lators themselves; and had the ratification of the Constitution and the election ol 111 1,1,01 K depended oil the colored vote alone, both would have failed. On the other hand the Democratic b ad ers persuaded themselves that Northern Geopda, deceived by the cry el negro supremacy ami negro -iillragi . would go i almost a> a unit for tin- party opposed to reconstruction. Tiny did not take into ' their calculations a powerful element: they j forgot that the mountains were always the , la-t refuge of freedom in all ages and in ; all the world ; they forgot that a majority j of the people of Northern (ieorgia longed ! for a restoration to the government of their fathers, and despised the men who were I prominent in inaugurating the reign of j terror under which they sidl'ercd during the Confederacy. They saw some of tin-e wry same men prominent in the leadership of the falsely styled Democratic party, and they distrusted them and their advice, which they believed tended a' ain to civil war. Confident in their future ability to rule the State- as they, until secession, always had ruled it they regarded the i ty of negro siipu maey in it • true light, as H miserable humbug. Longing to return to the Union they took the only path that led to that goal. The Democratic calculator.' forgot or j contemptuously disregarded the lari that J Northern Georgia was Inion to the i ore. i Hence, we can imagine their disappoint- | incut when they found in counties in that ection the vote for Bullock and tie Con titutior) more than doubling, and in -mm instances, more than i|iiadrupling the color ed vote, indicating that the eternal cry of “nigger, nigger." had very little effect on the brave and patriotic mountaineers. We eonfess that wo are gratified by tin result in every point of view. We rejoice at the election of Bn.lax n and the ratiti cation of our almost perfect Constitution. Wc are not sorry that the Dcinoeraey havi been able to control, no matter by w hat means, large numbers of negro votes. Tin exertions they used to that effect allow that their outcry against negro suffrage was all a sliutn and a pretense. We think that no greater calamity can befall a people than to he divided into political parties by raee. complexion, or religion : and we think it a subject of congratulation that this great victory bus been achieved, not by the vote, of colored men alone not by the volt of white men alone, but by the volts of i,:< n of both races that those who wished to build up a “white man’s parly.' - and those, if nny there Ms. who desired to t -lubli h a colored mail's party, have been etpmlly disappointed that the Hepuhlieam have won their victory by the help ol white votes, and their opponents have been re tlueetl to solicit the aid of colored voters. There is an end of the antagonism between the races; for each rate, in the matter of this election, can sav. ‘ Thou can t not -ay I did it." The Election in Georgia. Why, as is always the case, those so-called, self constituted champions of what they are pleased to term “constitutional liberty.*' Read such articles as the one capping this communi cation, and in them you will lind well nigh all that is calculated to stir up. had blood. “Mutual clubs” are to be organised, and wonders arc to he accomplished, if the suggestions of the great “whipper-in ’ are adopted. But tell its, was there not a time when this Cyclops of modernized Democ racy was busily engaged in laying plans te kill off immigration, by which America was being so rapidly flooded with foreigners? Perhaps '4*B strategy will prove as effeetu >1 as that of *66. There are some who are thoughtless enough to follow in the Cyclop's footpath, but the majority of those wh > voted for the gentlemen whose election lie advocated will be found on the side of reason. Wonder if sornzdiody is not an aspirant tor the M:\yoraltv ? The Mayoralty—that's the key with which to unlock anil prey into the mysteries of the “our plain duty chest, which latter is in itselt a very Pandora's box.
