De- This interesting SpccUrular Drama »«« agaiu performed last night at Concert Hall, to a crowded house. Prudery, pure and un defiled, may object to the scenes iu aouio of the nets, hut it were well to remember that motto, so uppropos —“Tloni Sui qtse mat ye /tense.’’ To the habitues of the theatre to those who never tail to leud their presence mid countenance to the saw Just ring—the Circus- it were the very bight of absurdity to object or say » word as to the readings, or scenery, or performances ol the Troupe, now rendering so well the Drama of the ltlack Crook in this city. Those who may have seen ibo saao spectacular exhi - lotion in New Y'ork, and other cities of the Union, can have but few objection** to the performances of Templeton’s Company in this city, and these objections are, the cramped stage, the ill-vcnlilated house, the great lack of the right sort of properties, and the miserable order kept in the dress circle, and the galleries. Mounted upon the backs of the scats, senseless applauding, and whistling all over the house, we imagine, does not convey a very pleasant view of the manners, at public places, of tho cox populi of Augusta. Applause nt the right place and in the right time, we have no objection to, and never fail to give it when deserved, as we think every ended scene required last night. Another thing is, the noisy uud disgusting yelling and encoring at the close of so many songs and dances. It is wearying to the artistes, though considered by some folks as highly complimentary. There is no .sparkle left to the song or the dance, and as “variety is the spice of life,’’ at such a place, repetition is too much of a “whatness,’’ and falls upon tho ear or the retime like a surfeit -followed by indigestion —in the physical view of the case. There is no more occasion in a theatre, than in a church, lor gentlemen to give loose rein to hilariou3 yelling, or loud cries, or terrific whistles and screams. Applaud to the echo, it you will, in a sensible way, but remember that noise ii not the sort of applause grateful to the artistes or pleasant to those of the audience who under stand the refined mode of appreciating those who endeavor so faithfully to eater to the pleasure and amusement of their audience. There are .-oine other matters that need looking after, but we defer them for the present. —— ■ i ♦ i Fire iu Tlionin.lon, The Monroe Advertiser learns that an extensive fire occurred iu Thoniaston last week, which destroyed a large portion of the town. The fire occurred on precisely the same day of the month as the one there last year. This, says the Advertiser , is the third fire, wc believe, that has occurred in that unfortunate town since the war, and from the great extent of them, there can be but little of it left. Colton Hrccipt*. We find that the receipts of cotton at all the ports since September 1, IBu7, to 22tl May, 18G8, amounts in the aggregate to 107,148 baits—up tu the same time lasi year, 1,712,851 bales. Os this amount, there have been shipped, up to the same time, to Northern puns, 7e0,01S liales, and for las* year, »12,011; hales—-tbv remainder having bceh shipped to foreign ports —leav- ing stock in this country to the same period 182,827 bales, against 752.3,2171 bales last year. These figures show that scarcity of supply may tend to keep the market steady, and perhaps give it au impetus to higher prices when tho fact becomes generally known of the decrease ol stock on hand* The last crop, which is now left at the South’ has very generally passed out of planters’ hands, and if speculators tail hold on to their yrip, Aome of the fortunate ones may yet get their dreams realized. Is the cheapest and best family medicine in the world. The moment it is used, pain ceases. It cures rheumatism, neuralgia, bilious cholic, and inflammation of the kid neys, almost instantly. If seized with sudden colds, coughs, influenza, diptheria, hoarse ness, sore throat, chills, fever and ague, mercurial pains, scarlet fever, etc., etc., take from four to six of Kadway’a Pills, and also take a tcaspoonful of the Ready Relief in a glass of warm water, sweetened with sugar or honey ; bathe the throat, head and chest with Ready Relief, (if ague or inter mittent fever, bathe the spine also), in the morning you will he cured. How the Relief acts. —In a few minutes the patient will feel a slight tinging irrita tion, and the skin becomes reddened; if there is much distress in the stomach, the Relief will assist nature in removing tho offending cause—-'a general warmth is felt throughout the entire body, and its diffusive stimulating properties rapidly courses through every vein and tissue of the system, arousing the slothful and partially paraly zed glands and organs to renewed and healthy action ; perspiration follows, and the body feels increased heat. The sickness at stomach, colds, chills, headache, oppress ed breathing, thesorencssof the throat, and all pains, cither internally or externally, rapidly subside, and the patient falls into a tranquil sleep, awakes refreshed, invigor ated, cured. It will be found that in using the Relief externally, either on the spine or across the kidneys, or over tlie stomach and bowels, that for several days after a pleasing warmth will he (elt, showing the length of time it continues its influence over tlio diseased parts. TVasuinuton, May 27.—Stanton vacated the War Office yesterday, Parties complying witli Amnesty procla mation of September were registered yester day. This concession adds considerably to tho white vote. The Senate is engaged in unimportant routine. The keys of the War Office arc still with General Townsend. Hall of the guard have been removed. Woolley was before the corruption committee to-day, but rctusiug to answer how he spent his money, was re committed. It is staled that Grant favors Schofield’s confirmation. In Executive Session, the Senate referred Schofield’s nomination to the Committee. Revenue to day $82,900. Plenty rumors of Cabiuct resignations, but nothing reliable. Congressional. Washington, May 27. Scuttle —A bill incorporating a National Insurance Com pany passed.
