The National Republican party of the lifted Stales, assembled in, National Convention, iu the city of Chi cago, on the 20th day of May, 1868, make the following Declaration of Principles : Ist. We congratulate the country on the assured suc cess of the reconstruction policy of Congress, ai evinced by the adoption, in a majority of the States lately in rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil and political rights to all, and regard it as the duty of the Government to sustain those wutiUitions, aud to prevent the people of such states from being remitted to a state of anarchy. 2d. The guarantee, by Congress, of equal suffrage to all loyal men in the South was demanded by every con sideration of public safety, of gratitude and of justice, and must be maintained, while the question of suffrage in all the loyal States property belongs to the people of those States. 3d. We denounce all forms of repudiation as a na tional crime, and the national honor requires the pay ment of the public indebtedness, in the utmost good faith, to al! creditors, at home and abroad, not only according to the letter, but the spirit of the laws under which it was contracted. 4th. It is dtre to the labor of the nation that taxation should be equalized and reduced as rapidly as the na tional faith will permit. sth. The national debt, contracted, as it has been, for the preservation of the Union a for all time to come, should be extended over a fair ‘period for redemption, and it is the duty of Congress.to reduce ttyi rate of in terest thereon, whenever It can honestly be done. 6th. That the best policy to diminish opr burden bf debt is to so improve our credit that capitalists will seek to loan us money at lower rates of interest than we now pat and must continue to pay, so long as repudiation, partial or total, open or, covert, is threatened or sus pected. 7th. The Government of the United States should be administered with the strictest economy, and the cor ruptions which have been so shamefully nursed and fostered by Andrew Johnson call loudly for radical re form. Bth. We profoundly deplore the untimely and tragic death of Abraham Lincoln, and regret the accession of Andrew Johnson to the Presidency, who has acted treacherously to the people jyho elected him and the cause he was pledged to support; has usurped high legislative and judicial functions; has refused to exe cute the laws; has used his high oftice to induce other officers to ignore and -violate the- laws; has employed his executive powers to render insecure the property, peace, liberty and life of the citizen; has abused the pardoning power; has denounced the National Legisla ture as unconstitutional; has persistently and corruptly resisted, by every measure in his power, every proper attempt at the reconstruction of the States lately in re bellion; has perverted the public patronage into an engine of wholesale corruption; and has been justly impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and properly pronounced guilty thereof hy the vote of thirty-five Senators. 9th. The doctrine of Great Britain and other European powers, that because a man is once a subject, he is always so, must be resisted at every hazard by the . United States, as a relic rtf the feudal time, not author ized by the law of nations, And at war with our national honor and independence. Naturalized citizens are enti tled to be protectedjn all their tights of citizenship as though they were natural born, and no citizen of the United States, native or be liable to arrest and imprisonment, by any foreign newer, for acts done, or words spoken, in this couqtry, and if so arrested and imprisoned, it is the duty of the Government to interfere in bis behalf. 10th. Os all who were faithful iu the trials- of the late war, there were none entitled to more especial honor than tfie brave soldiers and seamen, who endured the hardsliips of the campaign and cruise, and imperilled their lives in the service of the country. The bounties and pensions provided by law for these brave defenders vs the nation are übfiagtions never to be forgotten. The widows and orphans of the gallant dead are the wards of the people, a saered legacy bequeathed to the nation’s protecting care. 11th. Foreign immigration, which in the past has added so much to the wealth, development of resources, and increase of power of this nation, the asylum of the oppreafW of all natiotac, should be fostered and encouc* aged by a liberal and just policy. 12th. This Convention declares its sympathy with all the oppressed people which arc struggling for their rights. IN BANKRUPTCY. Asiatic Cholera in China. ALMOST EVERY CASE CURED WITH PAIN KILLER. Read the following letter from Rev. R. Telford. Missionary in China, now visiting his home in Pennsylvania: Washikgton, Pa., June 25,1866. Messrs. Perry Davis rC Son, Providence, 11.1.: Dear Sirs —During a residence of some ten years as a Missionary in Siam and China, I found your vegetable Pain Killer a most valuable remedy for that fearful scourge, the Cholera. In administering the medicine, I found it most effectual to give a teaspoonfnl of Pain Killer in a gill of hot water sweetened with sugar; then, after abont fifteen minutes, begin to give a table- Spoonful ot the same mixture every minute until relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to the extremities. Batlie the stomach with Pain Killer, clear and rub the limbs briskly. Os those who had the cholera, and took the medicine faith fnlly in the Way suited above, eight out of ten recovered. - Yours, truly. R TELFORD. If qn attack with Diarrhaju, Dysentery, or Cramp Colic, don't, delay Ute use of the Pain Kilter. Sold by all medicine dealers. Price, 25 cents, 50 ceuls, and 81 per bottle. Manhattan, Kansas, April 17, 1866. Gentlemen— * * ' 1 want to say a little more about the Pain Killer. I consider it a very valuable medicine, and always keep it on hand. I have travelled a good deal since 1 have been in Kansas, aud never without taking it Avith me. In my practice I used it freely for the Asiatic Cholera, in 1849, and with better succr.ss than tiny other medicine i 1 also need it hero for cholera in 1855, with the same good result. Trulypyours, A. M. D. Swato, China. Cholera • * * * I regret to say that the ciwlera has prevailed here of latp to a fearful extent. For the last three wi ckii. from ten to fifty or sixty fatal cases each day has been re ported. I should add that the Pain Killer, sent recently from Ute Mission House, has been used with considerable success during this epidemic. If taken in season is generally effect ual in check ing the disease, ’’ . Rev. CIIARI.ES HARDINIG, . Bbolapore, India. [From the Portland Monthly ] Summer Complaint and Dysentery. Bowel complaints seem just now to be the prevailing element, and any medicine that is everywhere acceptable, and that is rehalde, is a very desirable acquisition. From what w e have seen, beard, aud experienced, we believe Davis' Pain Killer is tl#S desideratum, the best method of using it, we quote from the directions: “For common bowel complaints, give one tea spoonfnlln a gill of new milk and molasses, in equal parts, stirred well together; lessen the dose fcr chfidrtn, according to the age. If the pain Ire severe, bathe the trowels ai;d back with the medi cine. This mode of treatiuenl is good in eases of the cholera morbns. sudden stoppages, etc. Re peat the dose every honv. “Tire quickest way 1 eves saw Ute-dysentery curo was by taking one spoonful the Pain Killer iu one gill of milk and molasses stirred weH together and drauk hot, at the same time bathing the bowels freely with medicine. Let the dose be repeated every boor until the patient , is relieved.’’ w If every person who has reason to fenr this disease would provide t beta selves with a l>oule of tfos medicin 1 ', and use as occasion required, we believe a great amount of suffering aud sickness would be saved. . - ■ jel‘2—Sn Richmond County.
