Headquarters at Atlanta, Ga. - • -*■« KEPUBUCAN PLATFORM, The National Republican party of the United States, assembled in National Convention, in the city of Chi cago, on the 90th day of May, 1868, make the following Declaration of Principles : Ist. We congratulate the country on the assured suc cess of the reconstruction policy of Congress, a? evinced by the adoption, in a majority of the States lately in rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil and political rights to all, and regard it as the duty of the Government to sustain- these institutions, and to prevent the people of such States from being remitted to a state of anarchy. 2d. The guarantee, by Congress, of equal suffrage to all loyal men in the South was demanded by every con sideration of public safety, of gratitude and. of justice, and must be maintained, while the question of suffrage in all the loyal States properly belongs to the people of those States. 3d. We denounce all forms of repudiation as a na tional crime, and the national honor requires the pay ment of the public indebtedness, in the utmost good faith, to all creditors, at home and abroad, not only according to the letter, but the spirit of the laws under which it was contracted. 4th. It is due to the labor of the- nation that taxation * should be equalized and reduced as rapidly as the na tional faith will permit. sth. The national debt, contracted, as it has been, for the preservation of the Union for all time to come, should be extended over a fair period for redemption, and it is the duty of Congress to reduce the rate of in terest thereon, whenever it can honestly bo done. 6 th. That the best policy to diminish our burden of debt is to so improve our credit that capitalists will seek to loan us money at lower rates of interest than we now pay, and must continue to pay, so long* as repudiation, partial or total, open or covert, is threatened or sus pected. . 7th. The Government of the United States should be administered with the strictest economy, and the cor ruptions which have been so shamefniiy nursed and fostered by Andrew Johnson call loudly for r adical re form. • Bth. We profoundly deplore the untimely and tragic death of Abraham Lincoln, and regret the accession of Andrew Johnson to the Presidency, who has acted treacherously to the people who elected him and the cause he was pledged to support ; has usurped high legislative and judicial functions; has refused to exe cute the laws; has used his high office to induce other officers to ignore and violate the laws; has employed his executive powers to render insecure the property, peace, liberty and life of the citizen; has abused the pardoning power; has denounced the National Legisla ture m unconstitutional; has persistently and corruptly resisted, by every measure in his power, every proper attempt at the reconstruction of the States lately in re bellion; has perverted the public patronage into an 'engine of wholesale corruption; and has been justly impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and properly pronounced guilty thereof by the vote of thirty-five Senators. Oth. The doctrine of Great Britain and other European powers, that because a man is once a subject, he is always so, muet be resisted at every hazard by the United States, as a relic of the feudal time, not author ized by the law of nations, and at war with our national honor and independence. Naturalized citizens are enti tled to be protected in all their rights of citizenship as though they were natural born, and no citisen or the United States, native or naturalized, must be liable to arrest and imprisonment, by any foreign power, for acts done, or words spoken, in this country, ana if so arrested and imprisoned, it is the duty of the Government to interfere in his behalf. 10th. Os all who were faithful in.the trials of the Ute war, there were none entitled to more especial honor than the brave eoldiers and seamen, who endured the hardships of the campaign and cruise, and imperilled their lives in the service of the country. The bounties and pensions provided by law for these brave defenders of the nation are obliagtions never to be forgotten. The widows and orphans of the gallant dead are the wards of the people, a sacred legacjk bequeathed to the nation’s protecting care. 11th. Foreign immigration, which in the past has added so much to the wealth, development of resources, and increase of power of this nation, the asylum the ’’pptesaed of all nations, should be fostered and encour aKe4by a liberal and jiut policy. , 12th. This Convention declares Its sympathy with all the oppressed people which are struggling for their rights. better THAN GOLD ! Telford, Missionary in China, now visit ing his home in Peuasylvuwia: Washington. Pa, Jun 025,18041. Messrs. I'erry Davistt /Joa, Providence, 11.1.: Dear Birs—During a residence of some ten years as a Missionary hi Siam ai«l China, I found your vegetable Pain Killer - ri most valuable remedy for that fearful scourge, the Cholera. Tn administering the medicine, I found it most effectual to give a teaspoonfnl of Pain Killer in u gill of hot water eceetened wKb sugar; tlien, after about fifteen mih'iiss, begin to give a table spoonful ol the same mixture every minute until relief was obtained. Apply hot applications to the extremities. Bathe the stomach with Pain Killer, clear and nth the limits briskly. Os those who had the cholera, and took the medichie faith fully iu the way stated above, eight out of ten recovered. Yours, truly, ♦ R TELFORD. If an attack with I)iarrlt®a, Dysentery, or Cramp Colic, don’t delay the use of the Pain Killer. Sold by all medicine dealers Price, 25 cents, 50 cents, aud $1 per bottle. Manhattan, Kansas, April 17,1866. Gentlemen— * • * I want to say a little more about the Pain Killer. I consider it a very viAnMe medicine, and always keep it on hand. I have travelled a good deal siuce I have been in Kansas, and never without taking it with me, In my practice I used it freely for the Asiatic Cholera, in 1819, aud with better success than any other medicine -, I also used it here for cholera in 1855, with the same good result. Truly, yours, A. HUNTING, M. D. Bwato, China. “ Cholcxa I * * * I regret to say that tho oholeru has prevailed here <rf late to a fearful extent. For the last three weeks, from ten to titty or sixty fatal cases each day has beeir re ported. I. should add that the Pain Killer, seat recently from the Mission House, has been used with considerable success during this epjdetuiv. If taken in season is generally eilectuitl in check ing the disease. Rev, CHARLES IIARDINIG. Singapore, India. [From the P-ortlapd Monthly ] Summer Complaint and Dysentery. Bowel complaints sectn just now to be tlte prevailing element, and any medicine that is everywhere acceptable, and that is reliable, is a very desirable acquisition. From what we have seen, heard, and experienced, we believe Davis' Pain Killer is this desideratum. For the best method of using it, we quote from the directions: “For common bowel complaints, give one tea spoonful iu a gill of new milk and molasses, in equal parts, stirred well together; lessen the dose for children, according to the age. If the pain be severe, bathe the bowels aud back’with the medi cine. Thia mode of treatment is good in cases of the cholera mqrbus, sudden stoppages, etc. Re peat thasdose every hour. “The quickest way I ever saw the dysentery cored was by taking one spoonful of the Pain Killer iu one gill of milk and molasses stirred well together and drank liot, at the same time bathing the bowels freely with medicine. Let the dose be repeated every hour until the patient is relieved.' 1 If every person who has ieu«» id fear tiiip disease wouhl provide themselves with a bottle of this medicine, and use as occasion required, we believe a great amount of suffering and sickneap would be saved. je!2—2m Special Notice. 11 -iSr dr ’ ft 4 i®F* * 5 ° ~ s w _ I w a 9 <5 US Jr t W 1 ' I W *= « ■ I eg- 8 FJ I I ?s H I Ii: C « W Iw 1* ” § i i :■: jm hy ■ - *■ « rHI J 5 J Spectacles Rendered Useless. rHE MOST EMINENT PHYSICIANS Oculists and Divines recommend the nse of the CORNEA RESTORERS for Presbyopia or Far or Long Sightedness, or every porton who wears spectacles from old ago ; Dimness of Vision or Blurring; Overworked eyes; Astheno pia or Weak Eyes; Epiphora, or Watery Eyes; Pain in the Eye-bail; Amaurosis, or Obscurity of Vision; Photophobia, or Intolerance es Light; Weakness of the Retina and Optic Nerve ; Myodesophia, or Specks of Moving Bodies before the eyes; Ophthalmia, or Inflam mation of the Eye and Eyelids, and Imperfeet Vision from the effect of Inflammation, etc.; Cataract Eyes; Hemiopia, or Partial Blind ness ; and many other Diseases of the Eye.
