lhe Rationalliepubticanparty of the .United States,
assembled in National Convention, in the city es Chi
cago, on the 20th day of May, 1868, make the followiug
Declaration of Principles :
Ist. We congratulate the country on the assured suc
cess of the reconstruction policy of Congress, as
evinced by the adoption, In a minority of the States
lately in rebellion, of Constitutions securing equal civil
and political rights to all, and regard it as the duty of
the Government to sustain those institutions, and to
prevent the people of such States from being remitted
to a state of anarchy. , « x
2d, The guarantee, by Congress, of equal suffrage to
all loyal men in the South was demanded by every con
sideration of public safety, of gratitude and of justice,
and must be maintained, while the question of .•niffrage
in all the loyal States properly belongs to the people of
those States.
»d. We denounce all forms of repudiation as a na
tional crime, and tho national honor requires the pay
ment of the public indebtedness, m the utmost good
faith, to all creditors, at home and abroad, not only
according to the letter, but the spirit Os the laws
under which it was contracted.
4th. It is due to the labor of the nation (hat taxation
should be equalised and reduced as rapidly as the na
tional faith will permit
sth. The national debt, contracted, as it has been, for
the preservation of the Union for all time to come,
should be extended over a fair period for
and ft is tho duty of Congress to reduce the rate of in
terest thereon, whenever it can honestlv be done.
6th. That tire best policy to diminish our burden nf
debt is to so imprbve our credit that capitalists will seek
to loan us money Itlower rates of interest than we now
pay, an«i must contmue to pay, so long as repudiation,
partial or total, open or covert, is threatened or sus
pected.
7thi Ibe Government of the United StaUas should be
administered with the strictest economy, and the-cor
ruptions which have been so shamefully nursed and
fostered by Andrew Johnson call loudly for radical re
form.
Bth. We profoundly deplore the nothnely and tragic
death of Abraham Lincohi, and regret the accession of
Andrew Johnson to the Presidency, who has acted
treacherously to the people who elected him and the
cause he was pledged to support ; has usurped high
legislative and judicial functions; has refused to exe
cute the laws; has-used his high Qffice to induct other
officers to ignor. and violate the laws; hps employed
his executive powers to render insecure the property,
peace, liberty and MCe of the oitixen; has abused the
pardoning power; has denounced the National Legisla
ture as Unconstitutional; has persistently and corruptly
resisted, by every measure la his power, every proper
attempt at the reconstruction of the States lately in re
bellion; has perverte<l-4Wsmblic patronage Into an
engine of and has been Justly
impeached for hjgh crimes ml misdemeanors, and
properly pronounced guilty thereof by the vote of
thirty-five Senators.
9th. The dudtrine of Great Britain and other European
powers, that because p man is, .once a subject, he is
always so, must be resisted at ivety hazard by ths
United States, as a retie’of the feudal time, not author
ised by the law of nations, and at war with our national
honor.and independence. NafuraUaed citizens are enti
tled Mbe protected 1n pD'their rights of citizenship as
though they a ere natural porn, and no citizen of the
United States, native or wturalized, must be liable to
arrest and imprisonment, by any foreign power, for acts
done, or words ffpokew.iß thia country, and if so arrested
and imprisoned, it is the duty of tbe Government to
interfere in bis behalf.
10th. Os all who were faithful*fn the trial* of the late
war, there were none-entitled to more especial honor
than the brave soldiar# .md seamen, who endured tbe
hardships of the campaign and cruise, and imperilled
their Mves in tlia adrvioe of the country. The bounties
and pensions provided by law for these bro.ua defenders
of the nation ?re
widows mt orphans of the gallant dead are tbe wards of
tho peopio, a stared legacy bequeathed to the natioe's
protecting care.
11th. Foreign immigration, which In the past has
added So much to the wealth, development of resources,
and increase of power pf tfos nation, the asytanl of tho
oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and bncour
ag«i by a liberal and fost pdicjr.

Summer Complaint and Dysentery.
Bowel complaints seeta just now to be the
prevailing elenteot, amUdny medicine lliat ia>
everywhere acceptable, and tiiat ie reliable, is a
very desirable acquisition. From what we have
seen, heard, and experienced, we believe Davi*’
Pain Killer is this desitrratiiin. For the best
method of using it, we quote from the directions .-
“For common bowel complaint*, give one tea
spoonful in a gill of new milk and molatwes, in
equal parts, stirred well together; lessen the dose
for children, according t*' the age. If the pilin' be
severe, bathe the bowels *nd back with tire medi
cine. 'Lliis mode of treatment ia good iu cases ot
the cholera morbns, sndden stoppages, etc. Re
peat the doMrevery hour. «
■‘The quickest way fetor saw the dysentery
cured wa» by taking taie spoonful of the Pain
Killer iu one" giil of milk and molasses stirred
well together and drank hot, at the name time
bathing the bowels freely with medicine. Let
the dose be repeated every hour until tho patient
is.roljeved.’’
If every person who has reason to fear this
disease would provide themselves with a bottle
of this medicine, and use as octosion required, we
believe a great amount of sufitering and sickness
would be saved. jol2—2m
