Bmutitiil Fancy floods,
In great variety, at 190 Broad street.
AtTEtt Biiauley.—This notorious villain
was seen in the city yesterday, and Coroner
Harden, as was his duty, on the verdict of
the jury of inquest held on the body of Mr.
S. S. Law, caused a warrant to be” issued
against him, by Justice Philip M. Russell.
The warrant was placed in the hands of
officer Kauffman, who, accompanied by a
• Ivtaehmcnt ol police, went to Bradley's
ouse, at the corner of Broughton and Lin
"ln streets. It was thoroughly searched,
but the scoundrel could not be found. Dr.
Clift’s place also underwent a close scrutiny,
and other places were also looked into.
It was expected that he might try to leave
by the New York or Baltimore steamer, and
they were searched before sailing. As Brad
ley could not be found, a general warrant
was issued, authorizing any officer of the
city or county to arrest him whenever found.
He had not been arrested up to a late hour
last night.— Savannah News.
—A French chemist claims to have dis
covered a method of manufacturing trans
parent looking-glasses—terms which seem
to imply a self-contradiction. Instead ol
mercury he uses platinum for Ihe back of
the glass; and his preparation has the
virtue of concealing every defect in the
glass itself. M. Dode says that liia look
ing-glass may be used for windows, so
transparent is it.
—Anffther astounding operatic singer is
announced in Germany. Her name is Mlle.
Mallingcr, of Munich. Her price for the
Hoyal Opera of Munich is 10,006 florins a
year for ten years, with five months’ vaca
tion annually, and a life pension of 5,000
florins annually, at the expiration of the ten
years. Modest Mamsel!
—Daniel Thurston Wandell writes to a
Newark (N. Y.) paper that he is ninety
eight years of age and has voted at every
Presidential election since ' the days of
Washington. lie was a Democrat until
1864, when he voted for Lincoln. Since the
rebels fired upon Fort Sumter, his attach
ment has been for the Republican party
His first and last votes will be for the two
great captains—Washington and Grant
—Nicholas, the late Emperor of Russia,
did his courting in a novel and expeditious
manner. During a visit to the King of
Prussia, while at dinner, the Emperor rolled
up a ring in a piece of bread, and handing
it to the Princess Royal, said to her in a
subdued voice :“If yon will accept my hand,
put this ring on your finger.” She didn’t
loose any time. Site put it on.
—The English scientific papers are criti
tising severely our new war steamers. They
say that the entire new steam machinery of
the United States navy is the most eostly,
most cumbrous, least efficient, and most
utterly ridiculous in the world, and that no
other Power in Christendom, would tolerate
such blunders in its national engineering
practice.

The London TYmes, discussing the elec
tion, holds that, though the Democrats are
beaten, and the representation in Congress
is largely against them, they are yet a pow
erful party, and must greatly influence the
policy of the Government. The success of
Grant no one is disposed to regret. He has
fairly won his high rank by hard work,
real devotion to his country, and services
which will live largely in its remembrance.
He is no politician, and will take his office
with greater freedom than if he had utteied
all the shibboleths of the party.

Washnuton, November 6.- The follow
ing order was made public to-day :
Hkadquarteks of thh Army, )
Adjutant General’s Office,. V
Washington, Oct. 31st, 1808.)
Soldiers may, for certain offences not
strictly military, be sentenced by general
court-martial to confinement in a peniten
tiary. If any State in a Military Depart
ment has made provision by law for con
finement in a penitentiary thereof of
prisoners under sentence by a court martial
of tlie United States, the Department Com
mander may designate such penitentiary
as a place tor the execution of any such
sentence to penitentiary confinement. But
if no such provision has been made by any
State in the Department, the record will be
forwarded to the Secretary of War for
designation ol a prison. The authority
which has designated the place of confine
ment, or the proper authority, change tho
place of confinement, or mitigate or remit
the sentence. The same rules apply to
th i prisoners sentenced by Military Com
missioners, s > long as the law under which
the Military Commission acted is in force ;
but when that law ceases to be operative,
the President alone can change the place
of confinement, or mitigate or remit the
sentence.

Impeachment.
Tallahassee, November 6,--Harrison
Reed, Governor of the State, was impeached
by the Legislature today, charged with
high crimes and misdemeanors in office.
The charges were preferred by Horatio
Jenkins, President of the State Constitu
tional Convention, three fourths of the
members prescat voting in the affirmative.
All the members were not in attendance.
Governor Reed will contest the case His
friends claim that the body now in session
is illegal. They may adjourn to-morrow.
From best accounts the parties who
destroyed the State arms on the railroad
last night, must have forced the cars at
Madison. They broke open cases of rifles,
and broke and distributed them along the
track for several miles. The ammunition
mot with tho same fa'c. The cost to the
State is $20,000.
Returns from North Carolina
Raleigh, November 0. —Election returns
are yet so incomplete, that it is impossible
to say, witli certainty, how the State has
gone; Tho general opinion is that it lias
gone for Gr int by a majority of 5,000, more
or less. Large Democratic gains have been
made in the Ist, 2d, 3d and 4th Congres
sional Districts. Cobb, in the Ist, Heaton
in the 2d, Dcwesc in tho 4th and Lash in
the stli Congressional Districts, all Repub
licans, are elected- Tho returns indicate
tho election of Shobcr, in the Oth, Durham,
in the 7th, and possibly McCoy, Democrat,
in the 3d Districts.
Returns from South Carolina.
Charleston, November 0.--The returns
from the interior show that the Republican
majority in the State will lie largely
reduced. Reed and Simnson (Democrats)
are certainly elected to Congress from the
third and fourth districts. Bowen (Re
publican) will be elected in the second
district. The first district is doubtful, with
the probable re-election of Whittemore, Re
publican.
