Robbkriks.—On Saturday night last the atore of Mr C C Drake, on Broad street, near the Central Hotel was entered and robbed of about $2,500 worth of valuable and costly goods. The entrance was effect ed by boring through the window shutter. Yesterday morning a searoh warrant har ing been procured, a large portion of the goods stolen from Mr Drake were discovered in the house of a freedman, named Albert, who was arrested recently on a charge of Cotton stealing. We understand that the value of the goods received by Mr Brake will be about $2,000. A large quantity of stolen Cotton was also discovered in Albert’s house by the police. On the samo night, the watch and jewelry storo of Mr G Stoepel, under the Globe Hotel, was entered through the windows,' which Mr Stoepel had left open. About SI,OOO worth of watches were stolen. Efforts are being made to ascertain the whereabouts of the robbers and their booty. On Sunday night, about 8 o’okick, Dr J Jones, while passing the tin shop of Messrs Jaillett .1' Maddrey, on Ellis streot, near Jackson, observed the front window of the shop open and two negroes stauding by it. On the approach of the Doctor, they left very hastily. Hearing steps within tho shop, he called tor a policeman, and, to gether, entered, but the bird had already flown. It behooves our citizens: and the authori ties to bo on the alert for these light Anger ed gentry. They bad ceased their pranks for r. while ; but as they seem to have taken a fresh start, every one ! nterestcd should take a fresh start to arrest them and pre vent their depredations. St. Patrick's Day.—This ever memo rable anniversary of Ireland’s Patron Saint occurs on Saturday, this year, March 17tb, and on this account the sons of the old sod will give their ball on Friday evening, St. Patrick’s Day Eve, instead of the Day itself, as usual. The object of the ball' this year will'be for the benefit of Augusta Fire Com pany, No 5. It will be an occasion of much pleasure and merriment; and those who wish to “trip it on the light fantastic toe," and belp out No. 5 at the same time, must go and get a ticket at once. We ucknowl ledge the receipt of one; for which the Managers will be pleased to accept our thanks. A Haxdsomk Sign.— The passers by on Broad street must notice the box sign in front of Mrs. E. H. Pughe’s Dry Goods and Millinery establishment, No. 190. It is a beautiful piece of ornamental painting, and is the work of our well known citizen, Mr. Fisk. The painting is done upon canvass, and "in the highest style of the art. Our friend Fisk knows how to do such work, and thissign is an evidence of it. The Fancy Bazaar, No. 253 Broad Street.— This concern does not advertise in the N. Y. Herald, but is at the head of the market again with a large and well se lected stook o£ spring and summer goods, and we juge from outside appearances and inside prices will, as usual, supply a large portion of our community. The stock of ladies’ dress goods, trimmings, etc., is com plete, and gentlemen can be supplied with every article of furnishing goods from a handsome spring suit to an embroidered pe per colar. They charge nothing for showing goods. Home Industry.—A walk through the Phoenix Iron Works on Marbury street, near the Cotton Factory building, known as tho old Pistol Factory, justified us in com mending the establishment to the patronage of the public. Its enterprising proprietors, Messrs. Day A Phillips, are prepared to do all kinds of work in their line. They refer to some of our well known citizens. See thei - advertisement. Fatal Accident.—We regret to learn that Mr. J. B. Caldwell accidently fell over board from tho steamer Express on Sunday night, and was drowned : his body had not been recovered at one o’clock, P. M., yester day. Mr. Caldwell was a young man, highly esteemed by all who knew him. Death op Mu. Bcckmaster. —We regret to announce the death of Mr E J Buekmastcr, which event occurred yester day. Mr Buckmaster was an old merchant of this city, and a respected citizen. ilis loss will be deeply regretted by a large circle of relatives and friends.
