After chok ing the animal to death, she flung the body at her feet, where it was seized upon and devoured by rats before sue cor could reach her. —The prophecy imputed to Daniel Webster, bears peculiar significance at this day “If these fanatics and aboli tionists ever get power in their hands they will over ride the Constitution, set the Supreme Court at defiance, change and make laws to suit themselves. Finally, they will bankrupt the country, and deluge it with blood,” —Letters from the City of Mexico to 18th Feb., state that Geii. It shall be the duty of all holders of lors or lands, whether the same be en closed or unenclosed, to keep th* m clean and dry—they shall permit no sink to contain water, but shall fill up all low places on lots or lands, in “uch manner as to pass off the water, and shall every day, except the Sabbath, remove from said lots or lands all j decayed and decaying vegetable and animal : substances, and in general everything tend- ! ing to corrupt the air, and place the name (in convenient heaps) in the streets opposite lands, and twouty feet from their ; boundary, between daylight and nine o'clock iu the morniug; and no person shall throw ♦rash or filth into the streets, from bis or her lots or lands, at any other time than be tween dayl»ght and nine o’clock A. M., nor on the Sabbath day. And in case of failure or omission of any holder or holders of lots or lands, or other person to fill up any sink, j or l**w place, within twenty days after writ ten notice from the Mayor or any Member of Council, to him or her, or to his or her agent, to fill up the same, Council may pro ceed to till up the same at the exporse of the said lot or landholder, or other person, and so soon as the expeuse is ascertained execu tion shall issue for the same, and the amount levied and made from his or (ier property, and the said lot or landholder, or other por son, shall be fined in a sum not exceeding one hundred dollars for each day that such notice shall remain uneornplied with.
