THE LARGEST CIRCULATION.
FRIDAY MORNING SUrcb 16. 1866
Full Ureas.
THE NAKED TRUTH ABOUT IT.
Hart you e'er Men a damsel voluptuous as
lUklee,
Attired ala mad*, at a ball or a “hop”—
One who.-e dress was so full that the dress
of the lady
Gushed, rather suggestively, over the top.
At a soiree, last week, I saw several dozens
Os such gushing creatures, all ladies of
too ;
I was squire for the nonce to some young
country cousins.
And didn't they blu. h uud half offer to
run ?
u ’l>as a shame, so it was,” they remarked,
“to be wearing
Gowns cut so remarkably, dreadfully low.”
“Dear consins,” I whispered, “now do ho
forbearing.”
“Forbearing!” said one, “they're for
baring, l trow.”
Said I, “Fashion, my dears, is a species of
rubies.”
I don’t think they heard me, for Roso
said to Jano,
“La! Jenny, suppose they should bring in
the babies,
My! wouldn’t they soon raise particular
Cain.”
Sneered Jenny, “Do you look at that girl of
spare habit,
With bust just as flat as tho back of my
hand;
Now doesu’t she look like a partly-skinned
rabbit?
How thin girls can dress so, I don’t under
stand.”
“Well,” said I, pointing out a superb upper
torso,
“You like a ripe beauty, fair cousin, I
trust'H
“Oh ! the lean one was horrid,” cried Jane,
“but she’s more so
“Ripe beauty, indeed ! ripe enough for a
bust!”
“Town ladies,” I hinted, are open and
candid;
Concealments, as you may perceive, they
abjure.”
Quoth* June, “you talk trash, sir, if ever a
man did,
You’d rave if your sister drossed so, I am
sure.”
“Why, yes,” X replied, “but she’s not a Miss
Shoddy,
Nor is she a rich Miss Petrolia 'dOr.
A low neck won’t do for a commonplace
body;
Such luxuries, sweet cousin, aro not for
the poor.”
The elite were by this time all waltzing or
polking,
The ladies were flushed and the beaux
quite entranced ;
What thoughts tilled their heads while their
arms they were yoking
I know not, but eyes ne’er more tenderly
glanced.
'Twas nothing to uie, though ; the fathers
and brothers
Seemed jovial and banded equivocal puns.
While half-dressed and false-curied and
rouge-bedaubed mothers
Outlaughed uud outflirted their daughters
and sons.
My cousins, at first so extremely indignant,
More placable grew as the dancing waxed
warm ;
And after the supper, with smiles quite
benignant,
Remarked, “Perhaps low necks were not
any harm.”
I wish they were home, for the mode’s so
contagious,
They'll certainly catch it if here they re
main.
Their sk'rts have swelled to dimensions out
rageous,
From dresses decollettc they'll not long
retViiiii.
