Drjazet, tfho st ill keeps the stage in spite of her seventy years, is now making a tour in tiie French provinces. —More than a thousand steam voyages across the Atlantic will be made during the present year by the vessels ol differ ent lines. Vital Dubray has just.C'Ompleted in Paris a full sized statue of the Em press Josephine, in white marble, which is shortly to be erected *.u tile open space in front of the bridge of the Alma. —The benediction of the waters of the Neva by the Metropolitan Bishop of Novgorod and St. Petersburg, was lately celebrated with great pomp in the pres enee of the Imperial family. • —The Siamese twins now sign their names “C. and E. Bunker.” It seems that as Chang and Eng had only a name apiece, and those very brief, they adopted as a surname the family name of the sisters whom they married. —A person was boasting that he was sprung from a high family in England. “Yes,” said a bystander, “1 have seen some of the same family so high that their feet, could not touch the ground.” —The Lords of the Admiralty have just ordered that in the British navy lads under eighteen years of age shall be birched, but not flogged. —“ls anybody waiting upon you ?” said a poite dry goods clerk to a girl from the country. “Yes, sir,’’ said the blushing damsel, “that’s my feller out side. He would not com in.” —Secretary McCulloch lias directed the National Bank Note Company of New York to print $300,000 of one and two-dollargerenbacks,to replace an equal amount that has been mutilated and destroyed. —Two journalists at Turin- M- Botta and M. Battero, have been fighting a duel; the latter was shot dead. The cause of the quarrel is said to have been a difference of opinion as to the merits of M. Seialoja’s budget, —A girl who is only eleven years of age was charged before the Man chester magistrates, lately, with being drunk and disorderly. She said that some women gave her a draught of raw spirits, and- so made her drunk. Alter admiifistering a warning, Mr. Fowler discharged her. —A Frenchman for years loved a lady and never* missed passing his even ings at her house. She became a widow, “I wish you joy,” cried his friend, “you may now marry the woman you have so long adored.” “Alas,” said the poor Frenchman, profoundly dejected ; “and if so, where shall I spend my even ings ?” —ln the month ol January, 1866, a remarkable tree was brought to New York Irom a Western State, which if considered by the best judges to be worth $23,000. This was a black wal nut tree, seventy feet long, board or int-h measure, 4,500, but when cut into veneers it would be thirty times that, making 135,000 feet, which, at twenty cents, would be $27,000. The cost of cutting, carting and placing in store for sale would be about S7OO. —A dispatch from Washington of March 10 stirs that Mr. Stephens’ final acceptance of the Georgia Senatorship was in consequence of an assurance from high officials in Washington that he, would hi? admitted to his seat, and the President is determined to do his best to •secure that admission, and that his case is not an isolated one. —A young lady living near Salem, Indiana, died of sheer fright a few days since, occasioned hv her brother, who had been absent three years, rapping at her door in the night, and returning no answer to her demand who was there. She got out of her bed to go to another room, and fell dead on the floor. The young man intended to give her a surprise, and is distrusted at the tatal result of his foolish conduct. —ln the French chamber there are fiftveiglit lawyers, fifty-five mayors, thirty two officers of rank, eighteen mer chants, seventeen literary men, twelve bankers, nine magistrates, sixty-nine physicians, (our chamberlains, and two equiries of the E-nperor. Eighty four only of the members are in the habit of addressing the House, and of these thir teen only are good speakers. Ii shall be tho duty of all holders of lots or lands, whether the same be en closed or unenclosed, to keep th* m clean and dry—they shall permit no sink to contain water, hut shall fill up all low places on s-nd lots or lauds, in *uch luuuuer as to pafcs off the water, and shall every day, except the Sabbath, retrieve from said lots* or lands all decayed and decaying vegetable and animal substances, and in general everything tend ing to corrupt the air, and place the same (in convenient heaps) in the streets opposite said lots or lands, and twenty fret from their boundary, between daylight and nine o'clock in the morning; and no person shall throw tra<h or filth into the streets, from bis or her lots or lands, at any other time than be tween dayl ght and nine o’clock A. M., nor on the Sabbath and iy.
