TUESDAY MORNING Marvh 20, 1S0«
To Advertisers.
•If any business mail in Augusta, or
anywhere doubt* that the Dail.Y
Puts* is the best medium through which
to advertise in this city, we invite him
to call at our Office, any afternoon, and
we will take pleasure, as a matter of
business, in showing him the number ut
papers we print daily.

LOCAL MATTERS.
The Press as an Advertising Me-
DirM. —The larire circulation of the Press
make? it a useful medium for advertising,
und merchants, mechanic? and business
men. in fact, all who have anything to say
to the public should use it as such. Our
terms are moderate. The following
which we received a few days since, will give
the public some idea of the advantages
which they gain by advertising :
(trkenscoro, (la., March 16, 1566.
Elitnr Unify Pr*§* :
Will you please send me the Daily Pre**,
a? I see it contains many advertisements
which I can often see and refer to, aud
which will bo useful to me iu ordering
goods.
Respectfully, your ob’t serv’t,
T.11.J.
The Southern Express.—We arc
indebted to this Company for late favors.
By the way. this reminds us of something
*ve saw in a Tennessee exchange in regard
to this Company. It is as follows:
‘•The Southern Express Company, which
runs in connection with the Adams Express
Company, paid yesterday, through its Presi
dent. $200,000 to the First National Bank
of Memphis for money lost on the W. K.
Carter, which exploded near Vicksburg.
Miss. The money was received by the
Adams Express Company at St. Louis, aud
banded over to tho Southern Express Com
pany at Cairo, by whom it was shipped on
the W. 11. Carter, which arrived at Memphis
during the night, and not making sufficient
stay to deliver the money, it was carried
past that city, rendering tho Company
liable for the loss.”
The Southern Express is a great institu
tion. honorable, prompt and reliable in all
its business relation?.
Paper. Printers and dealers in
paper, cards, etc*, will find it to their inter
est to patrouize Francis M. Stone, manulac
turer and wholesale dealer in writing paper,
news, book and wrapping paper, cards, ink*
bronze, blank books, envelopes and every
thing usually kept in a first class stationery
house. During the past six months we have
purchased large quantities of cards and fine
paper for our job office, aud they were un
surpassed in quality and lowness of price.
If you want anything in this line don’t fail
to give Mr. Stone an order. If he hasn’t
got on baud what you want, he will inauu
lacturo it for you. See advertisement.
Absintiie.— A Paris correspondent
tells a curious story about a negro in that
city who had used Absinthe so freely that it
not only reduced him to idiotcy, but made
I him “steal tor stealing sake."
A casual observer might be led to suppose
that there was considerable absinthe drank
in this vicinity ; aud cases of stealing might
be (by way of variety) headed, instead of
“Another Robbery," “Another Case of Ab
sinthe"; instead of “More Burglary—heavy
Robbery," “More Absinthe —Heavy Bottle
of Absinthe," and so on. But we suggest
that, in all such cases, ab-souce would be
preferable to ab-sintho.
We would call attention to the adver.
tisement of the Auction Sale of Steamer
“Amazon," in another eoluinn. She was
recently snagged and sunk in the river a few
miles below the city. Tho river is now
quite low, and an excellent opportunity is
offered to auy who may wish to examine
the Steamer; and we are authorized to say
to those who may so desire that they will
find a watchman on hoard who will give
auy required information.
11. F. Russell & Cos. advertise, in to
day’s Press, a large aud attractive stock of
dry goods, in every variety, together with
gentlemen’s furnishing goods. Their store
is on the uorth side of Broad street, under
the Augusta Hotel, and is well supplied with
every artielo in their line. A glance at the
list of goods published to-day will induce a
call.
The Weather. —A great many peo
ple have been wtshing for rain, aud yoster
day a great inauy people got their wish,
lor after some cold on Sunday, and some
warmer weather on Mouday, it clouded up
aud commenced raining about four o’clock.
The gardens needed it, and ail should feel
duly grateful ior it.
Confederate Bonds Wanted.—
Branch, Sons A Cos. want eight per cent.
Confederate Bonds. If you have auy, here
is a chauco to dispose of them.
Strayed or Stolen.—See the adver
tisement of Mr. L. Travis, DO Walker street*
about a borstrayed or stolen.
