Council Meeting—At a called meet. ing of Council, held yesterday afternoon, the Mayor presented a message recommend ing that tho rates of taxation for the ensu ing year be adopted; that the Coupons of the City should be paid, or received in pay ment of taxes ; that such parties as had not paid the merchandize of 1861 ought to bo allowed to register ; and that the City Sur veyor should be required to keep a registry of all the real property in the City, he to receive a salary for his services. The Mayor, Collector and Treasurer, and Mr. Phinizy were authorized to settle the tax of 1864, upon some equitable basis, with those unable to pay the full amount, and such parties were authorized to register— the oath being amended to suit their cases. Her store is at No. 261 Broad street. Loss of a Steamer.—The steamer, General Hooker, en route from Charleston to Georgetown, S. C., took fire on the 21st, while off Breech Inlet breakers, and was destroyed. Tho following persons were lost : Mrs. Rhodes, of Georgetown, Miss Belle ltislcy, of Philadelphia. Miss Bush, daughter of the Mayor of Georgetown, ami some four or fivo colored persons. Tho steamer Pilot Boy, being near by, succeeded in saving most of the passengers and crew.
