WEDNESDAY MORNING...March 28,1866 SCISSORS. —The Richmond Sentinel has Keen merged into the Enquirer. —ls the door of mercy is shut upon you, you shut it vourself. —Women guilty of the folly of tight laoing, dress to kill. —ls n firmer doesn't wish to break, let him break the ground. —Don't find fault. Probably you have faults enough without hading any more. —“Wood is the thing after nil,” ns the man with a pine leg said when a mad dog bit it. —Every plain girl Ims one consola li >n. though not a pretty young lady, she will, if she lives be a pretty old one. —ls von are separated by the ocean from your lather and mother, are you their near or distant relative? —ls your sweetheart writes you an iifmlting letter, throw it on the floor and put a stamp on it. —That man is not good enough for any place who thinks no place good enough for him. —Col. Joseph Waters, a prominent citizen of Floyd comity, Georgia,'died at his residence on the first instant. —Captain Bell, who was arrested by the military authorities as one of the party engaged in the hanging of the negro soldier at Knoxville, tor the rour der of Col. Dver has been discharged. —A cottage in Newport lias been let for the snug little sum of $4,000 for the ensuing season. There ought to be a great, deal of love in that cottage to make it pay. —One account of the recent marriage of the Princess Anne Murat says that the whips of the coachmen cost twenty dollars each, and the silk stockings of the footmen thirty dollars a pair. —Somebody says “There’s magic in a lady's foot, And well the ladies know it; And she who has a pretty foot Is pretty sure to show it.” —The new iron bridge over the Ten nessee river, at Decatur, Alabama, will shortly be put up. It will be one of the finest structures of the kind in the Southern States. It will not cost less than SIBO,OOO. The greatest man is he who chooses the right with invincible resolution ; who resists the sorest temptations from within and without; who bears the heaviest burdens cheerfully; who is the calmest in storms, and whose reliance on truth, on virtue, and on God, is the most un faltering. —An exchange says: A lady of onr acquaintance, young, lovely and intelli gent, called on a celebrated physician to do “something” for a rush of blood to the head. “I have been doctoring myself," said the languid fair one, with a smile, to the bluff though kind M. D.. while he was feeling her pulse. “Why, I have taken Bruwlreth's Pills, Parr’s Pills, Sirauberg's Pills, Sand’s Sarsa parilla, Jayne’s Expectorant, used Dr. Sherman's Lozenges and Plaster, and—” “My Heavens, madam,” interrupted the astonished doctor, “all these do vonr complaint tto good I” “No! then what shall I take?” pettishly inquired the patient. “Take !” exclaimed the doctor, eyeing her from head to foot; “take!” exclaimed he, after a moment’s reflec tion. “why, take off vonr corsets!” Ax Infamous Wretch.—The Charles ton Courier , of the 24th instant, states : Not ma..y months since, there was wedded to a fair, but alas! too confiding, daughter of a highly esteemed and respected citizen of one of onr interior towns, a Northern man, who claimed formerly to have been an officer in the Federal army. The married life of the happy pair appears to have glided along smoothly and pleasantly, until at an inauspicious moment a third party steps upon the stage, and immediately trans forms quiet and bliss to discon ent and bitterness. The perfidious and brntal husband was confronted by another wife, who, having heard of his infamous con duct, had arrived from the North to institute inquiries and satisfy herself as to the truth or falsity of the reports which reached her. To her anguish jittd sorrow she found that the statements were indeed true. The affair has created quite a feeling in the District, ami liow it will end remains to be seen.
