bring to the performance of the task a ful
ness, a good will, ami an earnest effort;
ami I aiu sure that 1 cun say for myself and
my colleagues in tho Council, that, though
we may not be able to command success, wo
shall, at least, endeavor to deserve it.
The Mayor elect then took his seat, and
the new Council was organized.
Tho Kules of the previous Council were
then read by the Clerk, and, on motion of
Mr. Meyer, wore adopted lor tho government
of the present Council.
On motion ot Mr. Robertson, His Honor
the Mayor, was requested to appoint the
Standing Committees of Council at bis
leisure.
There being no further business, Council,
on motion, adjourned until Saturday next,
at 2 o’clock I*. AI.
The Poznanski Brothers.—The
Charleston Daily Sue* thus speaks of the
Brothers Posuanski, who left on Sunday
evening for our sister city Savannah, where
they gave their first grand concert on Mon
day night. “We heartily commend to
our Georgia friends, ffbt only as artists of
extraordinary abilities, but as gentlemen of
the highest standing, who bear with them
the gratitude and good wishes of the people
of their native city, for the handsome dona
tion they have made to his honor the Mayor
and Council for the relief of the general
necessities. Madame Hoffman, as a canta
trice, has but few equals, and as a lady of
the highest respectability has won universal
esteem in this city; whilst Hen* Buechol is
an artist of undoubted ability and a gentle
man in all respects of most pleasing man
ners. We commend the Poznanski Troupe,
oue and all, to our Georgia friends, and
wish them the success they so richly merit
in their extended tour.”
We are glad to hear these gentlemen
spoken so highly of, as our citizens will
kuow what to expect when they arrive
here.
Advice to Boys.—‘‘You are made to
be kind, generous, and magnanimous,” says
Horace Mann. “If there is a boy in school
who has a club foot, don’t let him know you
ever saw it. Ts there is a boy with ragged
clothes, don’t talk about rags in his hearing.
If there is a lain© boy, assign him some part
in tho play which dot’s not require much
running. If there is a dull oue, help him
to get his lessons.”

The Council Chamber, Yesterday.
—The sceno in the Council Chamber, yester
day, was a very animated one. Tho room
was crowded, and the inauguration ceremo
nies passed oil'very smoothly and satisfacto
rily to the largo audience present, who
greeted the ex-Mayor and tho Mayor elect
with loud applause. The new Council being
now organised, it will proceed to tho per
formance of its duties.
An Appeal.—Governor Jenkins has
issued an earnest appeal to Georgians of
means to come forward and Jono the State
money necessary to save her people in the
various districts from staWation.
Negroes Leaving Georgia.— The
Milledgeville papers say the negroes arc
leaving Georgia by thousands, to labor in
the west.

Will Kerosene Explode? —Some
ay yes, some say no. We have seen our
celebrated Lamp Man, Farr, test the Kero
sene sold by him, and it would not explode.
Wo see an item in an Atlanta paper, telling
about a Kerosene explosion in that city ?
recently. In our humble opinion, both are
correct; bad Kerosene will explode—good
Kerosene will not. What then ? Why, be
sure to get the good, the non-explosive.—
