placed in the Hope Engine House.
Almost a Biot.—A.s the Augusta firemen,
escorted l\v committees from cur city com
panies, were passing tho Citadel Green, ii
collision occurred between them and some
colored men, in which, it is said, one the
latter was slightly wounded by n pistol
shot. Afterwards we saw a great crowd of
negroes in front <*f Mr. Ogrcn's saddlery
store, corner of ll.iscl and Meeting streets,
who, as we afterwards learned, wore en
deavoring to get out a while boy, who, tho
colored men said, ha-1 inflicted tho -wound,
and who had run into Mr. Ogren’a for pro- !
tection. Mr. 0. ivlo-vd t.» them have ;
the boy, wi:h all th.-ir threats and menaces : !
and a few of the firemen came up aud dis
persed tho rioters. A detachment of col- ;
ortd troops come down, but a’ter a short j
time wore .sent back, aud quiet was perfectly
restored.

BETTER.—There is also a slight decline in

stock in the city is limited (in fact we know of but

DRY GOODS.—Our Dry Goods dealers are gene
rally well supplied with seasonable stocks of Goods
and Merchants from the interior will find it to theJ r

about, over. There is a limited stock of the Stand
ard Manures on sale. See quotations.
FISH. —Wo note a good demand for Mackerel*

2 25 per cwt.
MOL VSBES.—We note some recent arrivals of
Molasses, and prices are a little lower. Cuba 55a
60c. per gal. Selling in quantities at 55c.
POTATOES.—The stink of Irish lot a toes in
market is limited, and there is some Inquiry, at
full prices.
SUGAR. —There Is a good demand for {Sugar.
Prices show no recent change. See quotations.
TOBACCO.—Tobacco is very dull, and prices
range from 25c. to $1 00 per lb. for Common to
Good. Smm* Fancy Brands are held at higher
figures, but there is but little in the market.
FREIGHTS.—Cotton to Savannah, by River 91 00
per bale; by Bail Load $2 50. By Kail Road to
t harlestim $2 50 per bale.
COTTON.
V{e have “to report a depressed and declining
market. The tenor of recent advices from England
has had the effect to reduce the price of Good Mid
dling from 02c. to 3t’c. per lb., while the lower
grades have suffered still more, prices showing u
decline of -lc. per lb.
The offering stock during this week has been
well up to the demand, but there has been little
disposition on tin* part of bidders to press sales,
urn! transeciions have necessarily been limited.
Yesterday and to-day the market may be said to
have been almost, stagnant, and we find it difficult
to give quotations. The following, however, will
approximate, as near as possible, the views of
holders:

The fears we have expressed concerning
the sod, which has been, and now is being
planum, are being more than realized. From
every sec;ion of the country complaints Are
being made on this point. Home planters have
had u» ru-ijow their entire number ot acres,
and others unable to obtain a sufficient amount
ot good seed are planting far less than they
expected. Negro labor stems very scarce in
