Your Mother.—l wonder how many girls tell their mothers everything ? Not those “young ladies’’ who, going to and from school, smile, bow, and ex change notes aud carte de visiles with young men who make fun of you and your “pictures speaking in a way that would make your cheeks burq, with shame, if you heard it. All this, most credulous and romantic young ladies, they will do, although they gaze at your fresh young faces admiringly, and send or give charming verses or boquets. No matter what “other girls do,” don’t you do it. School girl flirtatious may end disastrously, as many a foolish, wretched young girl could tell you. Your yearn ing for some one to love is a great need of every woman’s heart. But there is time for every thing. Don’t let the bloom and freshness of your heart be brushed of in silly flirtations. Render" yourself truly intelligent. And, above all, tell your mother every thing. “Fun” in your dictionary would be indiscretion in hers. It will do you no harm to look and see. Never be ashamed to tell her, who should he your best friend and con fidant, all you think and feel. It is very strange that so many young girls will tell every person before “mother” that which is most important she should know. It is very sad that different per sons should know more about her own fair young daughters than she herself.— Fanny Fern. —“I would rather,” said Dr. Sharp, “when I am laid in the gTave, that some one in his manhood should stand over me and say: ‘There lies one who was a real friend to me, who warned me of the dangers of the young. No one knew it, but he aided me in the time of need; I owe what lam to him.’ Or would rather have some widow, with choking utter ance, telling her children : ‘There is your friend and mine: he visited me in my affliction, &od found you, my son, an em ployer, and you, my daughter, a happy home in a virtuous family.’ I would rather that such persons should stand a 1 my grave, than to have erected over it the most beautiful sculptured monument of Parisian or Italian marble. The heart’s broken utterance of reflections of past kindness, and tears of grateful memory shed upon the grave, are more valuable in my estimation, than the most costly cenotaph ever reared.” “11l Call Around and Pay.”— What a world of woe is contained in these few words to the poor artizau and mechanic ! “I’ll call around and pay,” says the rich man, to avoid the trouble of going to the desk to get the neces sary funds, aud the poor mechanic is obliged to go home to disappoint his workmen, and all who depend upon him tor their due. It is an easy matter to work ; the only real glory in this life is an independent idea of being able to sustain yourself by the labor of your own hands, and it may be easily im agined what crushing force there is in, “I’ll call around and pay,” to the labor ing man who depends on that pay for subsistence. If those who could pay would pay- at once, it would place hun dreds aud thousands in a condition to do likewise, and would prevent much misery and distress. NOTICE TO PHYSICIANS.
