That such a small affair should have cost millions of dollars will be a w orld’s wonder to the world’s end. How is it that the re sult is so ludicrously disproportion ed to the cost ? Where is the money ? An Irish echo answers with a derisive drawl, “J/c --hone y.”—Charleaton”—Charleaton Daily Netca, oth init. The Influence of Fknianism.—An Irish paper bemoans the blow which Fe* niauism has given to commercial enterprise in Ireland. “We are aware,” it says, “that a number of our mines in the West, owing to this filibustering movement, havff been prevented from being worked—that capital to the amount of £200,000 was ready to bo employed in their devolopmcut—that Irish noblemen and gentry hud couio for ward to join the capitalists of Englaud in carrying out this great and important undertaking : but, for the present, to use the words of Mr. Monsell, they refuse to pro ceed with the work. We know of another instance where a gentleman sacrificed what he had paid up on some of our Western quarry shares rasher than respond to future calls, so annoyed was he with Fenian ism and its doings.” Augusta Market.
