LABSESTCinIW ILAT ION.
WEDNESDAY MORNING May 18, 18««
[From the Dawson Journal.
My Rival.
BY SPHYUX.
I found my lore one pleasant eve,
Alone beneath a tree—
A book lay open on her lap—
She thinking pensively.
Ling’riug unseen—my ravished eyes
Fixed on her angel face ;
I spied, half bid beneath tlio book,
Quite sure a picture case!
Emotions of the purest typo
Bestirr'd my beating heart—
To think her loving eyes were on
My bumble counterpart.
Impatient, then, to be convinced,
Enraptur’d, I drew near.
The case was in an instant hid.
And she seemed fill’d with tear.
At once my jealousy was roused—
The thought I could not bear;
I had a rival—he was loved—
She had his picture there.
I coaxed and plead in ev’ry way
Aly frenzied brain could ken,
To see the contents of her bund—
But coaxed and plead in vaiu.
At length, bv rage quite overcorao—
I forced her hund—enough !
Clench’d in her tiny fingers were —
A tooth-brush and some snuff.

Roofing.
LOOK TO YOUR ROOFS.
Having secured the state
RIGHT OF THE
PATENT MICA ROOFING,
We arc now prepared to supply ifc in any
quantity, or to applv it. to Roofs.
Tho MICA ROOFING is adapted to build
ings of every description, aud can be
plied to Sleep or Flat Roofs, or over old
.Shingle Roofs, without removing the shin
gles. We recommend its use on Factories,
Foundries, Rtore Houses, Cotton Sheds,
Railroad Depots and upon all buildings
where steam is used, and a Fire Proof re
quired.
It costs about one-half the price of
Tin.
It is cheap, durable, and is easily and
quickly applied. The upper surface of the
Roofing is protected from the action of the
weather, by its covering of (Jround Mica,
which is pressed into tho water proof com
position, making a hard surface of stons,
beautiful in appearance, and a sure protec
tion against fire.
We shall also keep constantly on hand a
supply of
INDIA-RUBBER ROOFING PAINT,
which is »he best coating that can ho used
for Tin Roofing. Leaky Tin Roofs can be
readily repaired, so as to last many years,
at a trifling cost, which would in many
cases save the expense of anew Roof.
Full directions for applying, aud prices,
sent on application.
