I find that I am unable to take it, andxnow
of none in the IHetriet who it able to do to.

neither myself nor wife will take the oath.
I will keep the office open until a successor
is appointed, and if a suitable person can
be found and eaanot elsewhere procure an
office, I will furnish the nse of mine, free of
charge, as I am anxious to contribute to

Melancholy. —lt pains us to record
the death, on yesterday morning at 4
o’clock, of Mr«. Mary Ann Brantley, wife of
Rev. W. T. Brantley, D. D., and daughter
of the late Dr. Wm. H. Turpin, of Augusta.
The estimable lady was expeeted soon to be
with her husband and family, a resident of
our oity, Dr. Brantley having not long
sines aocepted tho pastorship of the SeeoDd
Baptist Church in this plaoe. Daring her
former residence here she made many
friends, who feci deeply afflicted by their

The Weather.—Yesterday dawned
as beautifully as one could wish a May day
to be, but about two o’olock a slight shower
of rain fell which served to lay the dust, but
did not lessen the temperature of tho
weather any.

the Directors of the Georgia Rail Road and
Banking Company.
