: : I* TANARUS, Geo Itappold,.! Ryan,
A Ntw OaoER. —From the subjoined
paragraph which we And in the Columbus,
(Ga.) .Vwn, of June 7th, we learn of the ex
istence of anew secret association. It ap
pears to be a charitablo Institution, organised
by Israelites, and is known ns the Indepen
dent Order Bnai Brittb. TVo have not
learned whether a Lodge haa been established
in this city or n«t. The Sint says :
Loim-.b Established. —We are infonno.l
that a number of the Israelites havo estab
lished a Chapter of the “Independent Order
Bnai llritth” —the general objects of which
nro similar to those of the Masonic Fraterni
ty. nnd it is likewise a secret organisation.
The Chapter here is termed the “Columbus
Lodge, No. 77.” Though tile Charter was
obtained but a few days since, the Lodge
numbers thirty-five members. l)r. M.
Moses is President. Tbo Order is widely
established in the United b’tates. Head
quarters are at Now York. The Lodge at
Cincinnati, we are told, has a fund of
SIB,OOO deposited so • the relief of the widow
and orphan. We wish the Columbus Lodge
abundant success in their association and
benevolent purposes. Its members are com
posed of intelligent, energetic men.
Wondekkcl Yarx.—The “Local - ’ of
the Wheeling llegitler gets off the follow
ing : “Asa gentleman was passing along
Fourth Street yesterday, ho passed a place
where a number of boys were playing
marbles. One of them, in shootiDg his mar
ble, cleverly put it under tho gentleman’s
foot. The gentleman slipped and stumbled
against a lady, also passing, precipitating
her aloug with himself upon a large hog
who was examining the gutter geographi
cally for debris. The bog, frightened out
of his propriety, bolted off and ran between
the legs ot another gentleman, who, in fall
ing, frightened a span of horses attached to
a wagun in an alley. A man who was in a
carpenter shop near by, was about to light
a cigar, and upon starting up to seo what
wus ibc matter, dropped his lighted match
among the shavings, and a fire came near
being originated. Thus ended this budget
of aecidcuts for tJfOday.”
The Fancy Bazaar*—We call the
special attention ot oar citizens to the ad
vertisement in our columns, of the Fancy
Bazaar, where goods of almost all descrip
tions, including fancy goods, dry goods,
notions, clothing, huts, cups, boots, shoes,
trunks, valises, etc., can be had. Country
Merchants, as well as our fellow citizens,
who are in need of such articles herein enu
merated, will call at tho Fancy Bazaar, No.
253 Broad Street.
Excellent Flour. —We have been
trying Stovall’s Excelsior Mills Flour
within the past tew days, and we are eu
ablcd to say, emphatically, that it can’t be
beat. Tho quality of Mr. Stovall’s Flour
is so well and so favorably known that
anything we can say of it would not add to
its reputation ; but those who have not
tried it, we advise to do so at oucr. If they
love good bread and biscuits, they will thank
ua for this advice.
Scott's Monthly Magazine.— We
have received tho Tune number of this ex
cellent Magazine. It is fully equal to its
predecessors, and as an able and interesting
Southern Journal, we commend it to tue

Recorder’s Court.— There was very
little done in this Court yesterday. One nr
two cases fined; one turned ovc'* to the
County Court on the charge of larceny ;
and the boy who pitched into the little nig
ner children of Thankful School, was fined
SSO or 60 days work on tho streots.
St. John's Saebath School.— We
are requested to state that this sabbath
School will hereafter meet at 4 o’clock P.
M., instead of 8 o’clock A. M. The friends
aud patrons of the School will please re
member the change.
