Weekly Cotton Circular of Messrs. William Bryce A Cos., New York, dated June 2Dth, ISfifi, wo make the follow ing extracts: Since our lost Circular, date 1 22d instant, was team'd, we have received Liverpool ud vices to *he 16th Inst, by steamer Java, oue week later than the lust report we reviewed. The business for the week has been fair, and the sales footed up 72,000 hales, o» which American formed more than a third part. The trade took 57,000 bales, 10.000 were exported, the balance going to specu lators. The receipts had been heavy, amounting to 114,000 bales, 61,000 of which were American. The stock had increased. Quotations were the same ns we last week leportod : 14- a 14$d. for Middling Upland to Orleans. The accounts from Manchester indicated an increased business in the man ufacturing districts, and notwithstanding the apprehensions of immediate hostilities upon the Continent, prices were firmly maintained. Sea Islands had been in fair request at unchanged rates, say 20 a 70 pence for inferior to fine Our own market fur the week has been very quiet, the views of buyers and sellers being divergent. Although offerings have been abundant, but few lots have boon pressed for sale; the stock, for the most part, being in very strong hands, who are hopeful of better prices. Tho amount of Orleans lor sale has been greater than usual, and iu accustomed request; a small lot grading “fair to fine” sold on Thursday for 50e. The market for cotton goods has been quiet, spinners seeming inclined to wait and see the course of cotton toward Fall before purchasing raw material or contracting for their goods. Our Southern advices this week aro of a varied character, the weather had been ex ceedingly propitious, and what had been saved were doing well, although the per centage ftf injury by the May rains and June gram is estimated higher than we sup posed. The army worm had madc-ii-s ap pearance in Western Texas, and in some localities was doing much injury. As we mentioned in «>ur last Circular, the Senate amended, by reducing to two cents the pro posed five cent tax on cottou as reported by the Lower House. The amendment by the Senate is now under discussion in the House, and every effort will be made to pass the original Bill: the probabilities are that a compromise will be effected, and a tax of three cents imposed. We would advise all of our friends to hasten the payment of the present tax on all cotton on hand, as the tax will probably go into operation on the lfiih July. Every effort, however, is being made to prevent an increase of tho tax by the friends of the doctrine of protection to home industry at the South. Provided for. —Josh Hill has got a pretty good position at Savannah. Ex- Provisional Governor Johnson has got an unimportant Foreign Mission, but it will suffice to givo him an excuse to leave his old Columbus home, where he was once re spected, but where he could not now even respect himself. If Uncle Sandy could hare just a small flan-pot somewhere, and a very few other so called Georgians could get a few crumbs, tho great “loyal” party of Georgia ought to bo satisfied. Let justice be done to the “ batriot They surely should be amply rewarded for the odium that has been heaped upon them on account of their great and conscientious (?) devo tion to the Star Spangled ! —Griffin Star.
