Miller, Esq., was counsel for the '■Bdefendant. The said defendant had re- fused to take out a license ns Exchange Broker on the ground that he only dealt in etc., as a part of his business, as for and not for others. Judge Gibson however, decided that, according to : Bthe evidence before the Court, the said de- MBfondant was an Exchango Broker, and fined Ml the 134th Section of the General Ordinance, failure to take out such license. This decision is one of interest to our ■ merchants; and it is sustained by the ae- of Council, which, at its last session !■ defined by Ordinance an Exchange Broker ■I as any one who buys and sells gold, silver ■ bonds, stocks, and other securities, fer spec ■ Hi at ion. IHII The point settled is this, that any person buys and sells gold, silver, bonds, or exchange, for purposes of epocu- or for others, or for profit other than the ordinary course of his own business, ■s to all intents and purposes, a Broker, will be required to pay a license of H|soo. m|B We have not learned whether this case he appealed or not; hut in the tnean- the City Authorities will persist in thoir view of the subject.
