An Ordinance.
TO PREVENT THE INTRODUCTION
of Glandered and Diseased Horses and
Mules into tho City of Augusta:
Whereas, the terrible and contagious dis
eases known as Glanders, Nasal Gleet, and
Pharcy, are prevailing to an Alarming extent
in this City, and arc known to have been
introduced here by evil and designing per
sons forth© purpose of pa ; n—
Sfc. I. Be it ordained by the City Coun
cil of Augusta, and it is hereby ordained by
the authority of the same, That aDy person
or persons who shall bring into this City,
any Horse or Mule having Glanders, Nasal
Gleet, Pharcy, or other infectious diseases,
endangering the health or lives of other
Horses and Mules, shall, on conviction, bo
fined in a sum not exceeding Five Hun
dred Dollars.
Sac. 11. Any person or persons, who
shall keep or allow to bo kept on his or
their premises, any GJandercd or Diseased
Horses or Mules, endangering the health or
lives of other Horses or Mules, or allow
them to run at large, shall, on conviction,
be fined in a sum of Ten Dollars for every
day such offence is committed.
Skc. 111. Any Vendue Master, or Auc
tioneer, in this City, who shall sell or allow
to be sold by his Agents, or others in his
employ, any Glandered or Diseased llorscs
or Mules, endangering the health or lives
of other Horses or Mules, shall on convic
tion, be fined in a sum not exceeding Fifty
Dollars for each and every such offence.
Sec. IV. And be it further ordained,
That all Ordinances nnd parts of Ordinances
militating against this Ordinance be and the
same arc hereby repealed.

TO ALTER AND -AMEND THE 79tii
Section of tho General Ordinance in
relation to the standard weight of Corn :
•Sec I. Be it Ordained by tbo City Coun
cil of Augusta, ahd it is hereby Ordained
by the authority of the same, That the
standard weight of all Corn sold by weight
shall be as follows: Shelled Corn shall
weigh sixty-six pounds per bushel, and Corn
in the oar shall weigh seventy pounds per
bushel; and the Clerk of the Market, or his
deputy, is authorized and shall make a rea
sonable deduction for wet, if, in his judg
ment, any should be made on that account,
and make, or cause to be made, a fair re
turn of tho weight to the person entitled to
the same.
Sec. 11. Any person, either buyer or
seller, violating any of the provisions of this
section, shall, on conviction, bG fined in a
sum not exceeding fifty dollars.
‘■'EC. 111. And bo it further Ordained,
That all Ordinances and parts of Ordi
nances militating against this Ordinance
be, and the samo nre hereby, repealed.

TO AMEND THE GENERAL TAX OR
DINANCE of the City of Augusta:
Sec. I. Be it Ordained by tho City Coun
cil of Augusta, and it is hereby Ordained
by the authority of tho same, That tho
General Tax Ordinance be amended as fol
lows :
On all sales at auction thero shall be a
tax of two per cent., except upon Real Es
tate, upon which there shall boa tax of one
per cent., and on Bonds, Stocks and other
securities, k of one per cent.; Provided that
thero shall bo no tax upon sales made by
Administrators, Guardians, or by virtue of
logal process.
Sec. 11. And be it further Ordnincd, That
nil Ordinances and parts of Ordinances
militating against this Ordinance be, and
the same are hereby, repealed.

Sec. I. Be it Ordained by tho City Coun
cil of Augusta, and it is hereby Ordained
by the Authority of tho same. That
any person or persons who shall bo
engaged in the Buying and Selling of Gold,
Bonds, Stocks, or Exchange,for speculation,
shall register and pay a tax of five hundred
dollars.
Sep. 11. Any one failing to take out a
license or register shall he subject to a fine
not exceeding ono hundred dollars.
Sec. 111. And be it further Ordained.
That all Ordinances and parts of Ordinances
militating against this Ordinance bo and
the same are hereby repealed.

Sec. I. Beit Ordained by the Authority
of the City Council, and it is hereby or
dained by the authority of the same, That
tho Twentieth Section of the General Ordi
nance be amendod by tho addition of the
following paragraph :
Any person or persons making use of the
signal or call for tho Police, such as rapping
upon tho pavement, trees, or posts, and
any unauthorized person or persons aterapt
ing to pass themselves off as Policemen,shall,
upon conviction before the Recorder’s
Court, be fined in a sum not exceeding one
hundred dollars.
Sec. 11. And be it further Ordained,
That all Ordinances and parts of Ordinances
militating against this Ordinance bo and
the same are hereby repealed.

Sec. I. Be it Ordained by the City
Council of Augusta, and it is hereby Or
dained by tho Authority of the same, That,
after the first quarter of tho license year,
Liquor Licenses (Numbers Ope and Two),
Dray Licenses, and Business Licenses, may
be taken out for the unexpired period of
tho year, at pro rata rates; counting, in all
cases, that part of the quarter in which
raid licenses are granted as a whole quarter;
Provided : That no such licenses shall be
taken out for a loss time than the unex
pired portion of the year.
Sec. 11. And bo it further Ordained,
that all Ordinances and parts of Ordinances
militating against this Ordinance bo and
the same are hereby repealed.
