Some half a dozen cages of disorderly conduct, of both colors, aud a couple of violations of the 6th Section, disorderly driving, were appropriately fined. Paper Collars.— We have heard a great deal lately about the effects of glazed paper collars, and recently saw a gentleman who has been wearing them, and has bn neck badly poisoned by them. Wc have, also, heard of another case in this city. These instances convince us that there is danger in wearing them, aid we publish them as a further warning to any who maj’ still have doubts upon the subject. It is more prudent to be cautious aud avoid the use of these collars. We hope to be all light in this respect in a day or two. Late Papers— The Southern Ex press brought us yesterday, the Richmond Examiner of June 12th, Now York Herald of the 12th ! That heats everything except the telegraph, and if it progresses at this rate tho telegraph will have to look to its laurels. TO PREVENT THE INTRODUCTION of (ilamlurerl and Diseased Horses and Mules into the City of Augusta; Whereas, the terrible and contagious dis eases known as Glanders, Nasal Gleet, and Pharcy, aro prevailing to an alarming extent in this City, and are known to have been introduced here by evil and designing per sons for the purpose of ga ; n— Sec. L Be it ordained by tho City Coun cil of Augusta, and it is hereby ordained by the authority of the same, That any person or persons who shall bring into this City, any Horse or Mule having Glanders, Nasal Gleet, Pharcy, or other infectious diseases, endangering tho health or lives of other Horses and Mules, shall, on conviction, be fined in a sum not exceeding Five Hun dred Dollars. Sec. 11. Any person or persons, who shall keep or allow to be kept on his or their premises, any Glandered or Diseased Horses or Mules, endangering the health or lives of other Horses or Mules, or allow them to run at large, shall, on conviction, ho fined in a sum of Ten Dollars for every day such offence is committed. Beo. 111. Any Vendue Master, or Auc tioneer, in this City, who shall sell or allow to he sold by his Agents, or others in his employ, any Glandered or Diseased Horses or Mules, endangering the health or lives of other Horses or Mules, shall on convic tion, he fined in a sum not exceeding Fifty Dollars for each and every such offence. Sec. IV. And bo it further ordained, That all Ordinances and parts of Ordinances militating against this Ordinance be and the same are hereby repealed. Done in Council this 6th dav of July, A. C. jyß An Ordinance TO ALTER AND AMEND THE 79th Section of the General Ordinance in relation to the standard weight of Corn : Sec I. Be it Ordaioed by the City Coun cil of Augusta, and it is hereby Ordained by the authority of the same, That the standard weight of all Corn sold by weight shall he as follows: Shelled Corn shall weigh fixtj r -six pounds per bushel, and Corn in tho ear shall weigh seventy pounds per bushel; and the Clerk of |he Market, or his deputy, is authorized and shall make a rea sonable deduction for wet, if, in his judg ment, any should be made on that account, and make, or cause to he made, a fair re turn of the weight to the person entitled to tho same. Sec. 11. Any person, either buyer or seller, violating any of the provisions of this section, shall, on conviction, be lined iu a sum not exceeding fifty dollars. Sec. 111. And he it further Ordained, That all Ordinances and parts of Ordi nances militating against this Ordinance be, and the same arc hereby, repealed. Done in Council this 6th day of July, A. D., 1866. Be it Ordained by the City Coun cil of Augusta, aud it is hereby Ordained by tho authority of the same, That the General Tax Ordinance bo amended as fol lows : On all sales at auction there shall be a tax of two per cent., except upon Real Es tate, upon which thero shall he a tax of one per cent., and on Bonds, Stocks and other securities, & of ono per cent.; Provided, that there shall ho no tux upon sales made by Administrators, Guardians, or by virtuo of legal process. Sec. 11. And ho it further Ordained, That all Ordinances and parts of Ordinances militating against this Ordinance ho, and the same are hereby, repealed. Done in Council this 6tli day of July, A. Be it Ordained by the City Coun cil of Augusta, and it is hereby Ordained by the Authority of tho same. That any person or persons who shall be engaged iu the Buying and Selling of Gold, Bonds, Stocks, or Exchange,for speculation, shall register and pay a tax of five hundred dollars. Sec. 11. Any ono failing to take out a license or register shall be subject to a fine not exceeding one hundred dollars. Sec. 111. And bo it further Ordained. That all Ordinances and parts of Ordinances militating against this Ordinance ho and the same are hereby repealed. Done in Council, this 6th day of July, A. D., 1866. JAS. T. GARDINER, [ L. Beit Ordained by the Authority of the City Council, and it is hereby or dained by the authority of the same. That the Twentieth Section of the General Ordi nance he amended by the addition of the following paragraph : Any person or persons making use of the signal or call for the Police,such as rapping upon the pavement, trees, or posts, and anj r unauthorized person or persons atempt ing to pass thorn selves off as Policemen,shall, upon conviction before tho Recorder’s Court, he fined in a sum not exceeding one hundred dollars. Sec. 11. And he it further Ordained, That all Ordinances and parts of Ordinances militating against this Ordinance be and the same are hereby repealed. Done in Council, this 6th day of July, A. Be it Ordained by the City Council of Augusta, aud it is hereby Or dained by the Authority of the same, That, after the first quarter of the license year, Liquor Licenses (Numbers *One and Two), Dray Licenses, and Business Licenses, may be taken out for the unexpired period of the year, at pro rata rates ; counting, in all cases, that part of the quarter in which paid licenses are granted as a whole quarter; Provided : That no such licenses shall he taken out for a less time than the unex pired portion of the year.
