Roofing.
LOOK TO YOUR ROOFS.
HAVING SECURED TnE STATE
RIGHT OF THE
PATENT MICA ROOFING,
We are now prepared to supply it in any
quantity, or to nppiv it to Roofs.
Tho MICA ROOFING is adapted to build
ings of every description, and can be ap
plied to Steep or Flat Roofs, or over old
Shingle Roofs, without removing the shin
gles. We recommend its use on Factories,
Foundries, Score .Houses, Cottpn Sheds,
Railroad Dopots and upon all buildings
where steam is used, and a Fire Proof re
quired.
It costs about one-half the price of
Tin.
It is cheap, durable, and is easily and
quiekly applied. The upper surface of the
Booting is protected from tho action of tho
weather, by its covering of Ground Mica,
which is pressed into the water proof com
position, making a hard surface of stone,
beautiful in appearance, and a sure protec
tion against, fire.
Wc shall also keep constantly on hand a
upply of
INDIA-RUBBER ROOFING PAINT,
which is the best coating that can bo used
for Tin Roofing. Leaky Tia Roofs can be
readily repaired, so as to last many years,
at a trifling cost, which would in man}’
cases save the expense of anew Roof.
Full directions for applying, and prices,
sent on application.

SCISSORS.
—Dr. Cyrus Alexander is working a
mine of sulphate of baryta in Botetourt
county, Va. #
Burton Harrison, formerly private
secretary to Mr. Davis, and George W.
Brown, one of the counsel, arrived at
Fortress Monroe on Saturday morning,
and spent the whole day inside of the
fort with Jefferson Davis and family.
The visit is presumed to have been
merely of a social nature. They left tho
same night for Baltimore. These visits
of friends, unobtrusively coming and
going, almost daily occur, and preclude
any idea of significance being attached
to them.
—One of the lay speakers in the
Alexandria Convention illustrated his
readiness to fraternize with the Northern
brethren, and his feelings toward them,
by the story of “the two men that would
not speak to each other; butone having
been converted at a camp-meeting, on
seeing his former enemy, held out his
hand, saying, ‘How d’ye do, Kemp? I
am humble enough to shake hands with
a dog?’ This brought down the house,
from its venerable President to the
youngest person present.”
—A Montreal special dispatch to the
Tribune says that the bill introduced
into Congress for tfie admission of those
Provinces into the Union has aroused
an angry feeling in the Government
circles. The bill is looked upon as a
bid to the Provinces to throw off their
allegiance to Great Britain, and join in
what is termed here the political confu
sion of the United States. The com
missioners appointed to ascertain the
damage done in the late Fenian raids,
report in the East it will amount to
$15,000 or $25,000, and in the West to
$6,000 or SIO,OOO.
—A man who has not visited Rich
mond for six months, says the Times,
would scarcely know Main street. Hand
some buildings occupy almost every lot
between Ninth and Fourteenth streets,
or are being built, and will be finished
before the end of summer. With few
exceptions, the new buildings have, or
are to have, their upper floors fitted up
as offices and lodging rooms. The in
crease of the houseroom of the city
from this source will be so great before
the next quarter as to cause a reduction
of the rate of rents.
—The Richmond Examiner pitches
into the National Banks of that city,
charging them with having haughtily
ignored the claims of the agricultural
and manufacturing interests of the South;
that they have lent more money in any
single month since their establishment,
to speculators in gold and shavers of
paper, than they have done for a whole
year to the manufacturing and farming
interests.-
—A domestic in London has been
punished with six months’ imprisonment
for emptying one hundred bottles of
wine and filling them with water.
Although she had been drinking the
wine for a very long time, the master did
not discover his loss until one evening
when he gave a banquet, and was boast
ing of his old wines ; he ordered “a few
bottles of this valuable wine” to be
brought from the cellar, when, to the
surprise of the host and the disgust of
the guests, it “turned out” aqua pura.
—The Egyptian paddle wheel steam
yacht, Mahronssa, Captain Fredrigo
Bey, built under the suprintendence of
the Peninsula ,nnd Oriental Company,
by Messrs. Samuda Brothers, of Lon
don, for the Viceroy of Egypt, arrived
at Malta on the 12th nit., having per
formed the voyage from Southampton
in the unpredecented short time of 157
hours. When under full steam she
consumes seven tons of coal an hour,
and is, without exception, the fastest
vessel afloat. At the measured mile in
Stake's Bay, her average speed was
18 4-10 knots an hour, which is equal
to about 20$ statute miles. After re
plenishing fuel she proceeded on the
26th for Constantinople, to meet the
Viceroy, who, it is reported, intends
paying a visit 'to England in her this
Summer. This splendid vessel is of
1800 tons, and is fitted with machinery
of 800 horse power. Her interior fit
tiugs are of extraordinary magnificence.
Her cost is said to have been £IOO,OOO,
NO., 166.
