To Kekp the Tires ox Wheels. — Hear what a practical man says on the subject: I ironed a wagon one year ago for my own use, and before putting on the tires I filled the felloes with linseed oil; and the tires have worn out and were never loose. I ironed a buggy for my own use several years ago, and tho tires are now as tight as when put on. My method of filling the felloes with oil is as follows: I use a long cast iron heater, made for the purpose. The oil is brought to a boiling heat, the wheel is placed on a stick so as to hang in oil each felloe, an hour for a common sized felloe. The timber should be dry, as green timber will not take in oil. Care should be taken that the oil he no hotter than a boiling heat, in order that the timber be not burnt. Timber filled with oil is not sus ceptible to water, and the timber is much more durable. I was amused some years ago. when I told the blacksmith how to keep the tire tight on wheels, by his tell ing me that it was a profitable business to tighten tires, and the wagonmakers will say that it is profitable to him to make and repair wheels ; but what will tho farmers who supports the wheel wright and smith say.—[ Neio York Coac/imaker's Magazine. Combining Religion and Amusement. The Young Men’s Christian Association, Troy, N. Y., have recently opened rooms there, in which they have introduced such gaipes as checkers, cards, dominoes and chess, claiming that such amusements operate to draw young men under the influence of the Association, and induce them to repeat their visits. It has created a terrible stir among the Puritans, who regard a good hearty laugh as being inspired by the Devil, and a game of whist or checkers as played by Satan’s fingers. Nothing has transpired in that vicinity for a longtime that created any sensation like unto what this movement of the Young Men’s Christian Associa tion. ‘ For Rent and Sale* TO RENT, IJ'ROM THK FIRST OF OCTOBER noxt, that desirable Two Story DWEL LING, No. 45 Watkins Street, North ei<l« of the Parade Ground, containing seven Rooms, besides Pantry.
