A lelter from Dalton states that one company took out in a single day over SIO,OOO. —As nobody can be found at Canton, Miss., to take the oath, the post-office there was closed ten or twelve days ago and advertised for rent. —The trouble with the Freedmen’s Bureau is, it has too many drawers. Even the American Greenback Treas ury can’t stand it. —John Pierce, of New Bedford, took a boat, recently, went out into the stream, aud anchored himself at the bot tom of the harbor. —Tho field pieces presented by La fayette to the Continental Congress, are at present in the yard of the Capitol at Harrisburg, Pa. —A COW died Maine, oud a piece of hoop-skirt was found-in her throat) It is supposed she swallowed the milk' maid. —Jefferson Davis' son is an inmate of the Bishop’s College, Lennoxviile, Can ada, and his little daughter is at the convent of the Sacred Heart, Saultau Recallat. —A congregation of colored Roman Catholics have purchased the old Swcden borgian building in Cincinnati, and it has been solemnly dedicated by the Archbishop. —A young lady who was bathing at East New London, one evening last (week, had one of her toes so badly bitten by a crab that she will doubtless have to suffer the amputation of it. —A Scotchman asked au Irishman j “Why were half farthings coined in Eng land ?” Pat’s answer was, “To give Scotchmen an opportunity of subscribing to charitable institutions.” —A balloonist in Rome, New York, undertook to make an ascension on the 4th with a rarified air balloon. The concern took fire and floated over the town, dropping burning fragments among the buildings, two of which were destroyed. —The mausoleum in Hyde Park, London, erected in memory of Prince Albert, is partly finished. It is one hundred and sixty feet in height, and is to be surmounted by a statue of the Prince, upon 'which Marochetti is now engaged.
