B T JO>> O. SAXE.
Os all the smustmsnti of tho mind,
From logio down to fishing,
Tboro it not 000 that you eon Bnd
So rory ohtnp m “wishing
A Tory choice direriion, too,
If wo but rightly uie it,
And not, ac we are apt to do,
PorTort it and abuse it.
I with—a common wish, indeed —
My puree waa something fatter;
That I might cheer the child of need,
And not my pride to flatter,
That I might make oppression reel
As gold oan only make it,
And break the tyrant’s rod of steel
As gold can only break it.
I wish—that sympathy and lows,
And every human passion
That has its origin above,
Would come and keep in fashion ;
That scorn, and jealousy, and hate,
And every base emotion,
Were buried fifty fathoms deep
Beneath the waves of ocean !
I wish—that friends were always true,
And motives always pure;
I wish the good were not so few,
I wish the bad were fewer ;
I wish that parsons ne’er forgot
To heed their pious teaching ;
I wish that practicing was not
So different from preaching.
I wish—that modest worth might be
Appraised with truth and candor ;
I wish that innocenoe were free
From treachery and slander ;
1 wish that men their vows would mind,
That women ne’er were rovers;
I wish that wives were always kind,
And husbands always lovers.
I wish—in fine—that joy and mirth,
And every good ideal,
May come, ere while, throughout the earth,
To be the glorious real;
Till God shall every creature bless
With his supremest blessing,
And hope be lost in happiness,
And wishing be possession.

Mr. A T. Woodward, Agent of Perry David
Pain Killer >
Dear Sib : I feel it a duty I owe to the
peblie, to make known the value of Perry
Devil’ Pain Killer, and my experience in
uaing it for some of the complaints for
which it is highly recommended. In April
last, on your recommendation, I pnrehaaed
a one dollar bottle of you for pains with
which I have long been afflicted, and made
use of It on my trip down to New Orleans,
with the most gratifyiog and beneficial
effects. On my return to this city, the
Cholera made its appearsnee among some
of my paaaengera. I mad© use of the Pain
Killer, having no other remedy on board,
i and, to my anrpriae and gratification, found
it gave immediate relief 1 On my arrival
in St. Louie, I called on you and got four
large bottles, aDd stated to you my confi
dence in it as an infallible Cholera remedy,
and remrrking to you that I wanted no
other Cholera remedy on my boat. I made
nse of the four bottles on my trip to New
Orleans and back, for Cholera and aomo
other complaints for which it is reoom
mended, and met with the most astonishing
suceess; when I ordered from you six more
one dollar bottles. Since then I have
made two more trips to New Orleans and
back,- and on my previous trip up I had
more than
SEVENTY CASES OF CHOLERA
on board, when the PAIN KILLER was
immediately used with the most astonishing
results. In all cases where it was used in
time, it gave relief in a very short time;
and I can, with confidence, say to the pub
lic, that in all the first stages of Cholera,
when taken in time, it is, id my opinion, an
infallible remedy! and after a fair trial
with it for several weeks, and lor four
trips to New Orleans and back, and using
it for Cholera and other complaints for
which it ia recommended, no consideration
whatever would Induce me to leave port
without a good supply—believing it to be a
medicine that no officer of a boat or any
family would be without a single day after
using one bottle; believing it to be the
most valuable family medicine known to
the world for all the different complaints
for which it is recommended.
P. S.—Please send me six large bottles
for this trip.
J. M. Broadwell,
Captain Steamer Adriatic.
I moat cordially unite with Capt. Broad
well in recommending Perry Davis’a Puln
Killer to the publie, having mvaelf been
severely attacked with the Cholera, and
found relief in a few hours by using the
Pain Killer, and have myself administered
it to more than fifty persons attacked with
the Cholera, aud when used in time, a cure
was effected in a few hoars, and take pleas
ure in recommending it to the pnhlie as an
invaluable medicine, that no individual
should be without asingie hour.
J. F. BorrixGTOx,
Clerk Steamer Adriatic.
Davis’ Pair Killer.—ln to-day’s Union
will be found an advertisement of this cele
brated remedy. The certificates appended
from the captain and elerk of the steamer
Atlantic we know to bo genuine, and
founded on facts, as they verbally stated iu
