Bailn srrss. City Printer-Official Paper LARH E STCIT Y* CIRCULA TION WKDNESDAY MORNING Sept. 6, 1!M A Song of the Fast- Sweet singing bird of my lone, lone soul, Why grows thy plumage dim ? Why erho the aisles of my proud, sad heart No more with thy matin hymn ? Os old, when with many a legend quaint, Rose thy soug through the sunset boors, I sat ’ncath the bonding of sweet rose boughs, Half buried by trimson flowers. t Long years passed on, and the rose tree died But my heart Is all aglow, And its flashing fountains lightward leap To the uiusio of “long ago.” Ob, beautiful past! Oh, sweet, sweet dreams ! As ye rise like a soft refrain ; The bird which slept in my heart so long, Has fluttered its wings again. Once, runs its story, where grows the grape, On the “beautiful, castled Rhino,” Swept down a sunset whoso purple robes Soemed dripping with rosy wine. And it crowned with gold the knightly Hold, (Ah, where is its glory now?) The Hold that frowned, in its stately pride, On the river-cliff’s rough brow. Fur down a winding pass uprose The notes of a warlike strain— To the castle gates a lady sprang— “My love has returned again !” Was it a triumph song which swelled, Upborne by the Summer gale ? Or—but her fingers clutched her robe (g;As she caught the solemn wail. They came! in their midst a war-horse led With a mournful, reverent care, With lowcrod pennon, with trailing lanco, And with forehoad bent and bare. There was many a strain on the bridle-rein, The houses were red with gore, And she knew that “a battle was lost and won," That a warrior’s race was o’er. And when another sunset swept O’er the “beautiful, c: at ei Rhino,” It lay like a crown on the icy brow Os the Lady Geraldine. Groceries, Liquors. SUNDRIES. crviIHDS. IISL Wc beg to call the attention of the pub lic to this long tested and unrivalled FAMILY MEDICINE. The PAIN KILLER is a purely vegeta ble compound.; and while it is a most e - eient Remedy for Pain, it is a perfectly safe Medicine even in the most unskillful bands. FOR SUMMER COMPLAINT, Or any other form of bowel disease in chil dren nr adults, it is an almost certain cure, and has, without doubt, been more success ful in curing the various kinds of CHOLERA than any other known remedy, or even the most skillful physician. In India, Africa and China, whero this drendlul disease is ever more or loss prevalent, the PAIN KILLER is considered by the natives, as well as Eu ropean residents in those climates, a SURE REMEDY. Asa Tonic for the Stomach, it is unrivalled. A few doses will relieve se vere eases of INDIGESTION, and it is often a perfect cure for DYSPEPSIA, in its most aggravated forms. Its tonic and stimulating properties, arousing the system to vigor and action, render it a most effec tual cure for COLDS AND COUGHS, when used according to directions. For external applications, it is unsur passed by any medical preparation. Rheumatism and Neuralgic Affections arc quickly relieved and often cared by it. Any Soreness in the Muscles or Joints can be relieved by its application. It cures in stantly the most violent TOOTHACHE. It should always be kept near at band, to be used in cases of severo BURNS or SCALDs. 11 applied immediately, accord ing to directions, it will give instant relief, and prevent blistering. It is peculiarly adapted to the want# of SEAMEN, and persons making sea voy ages, and no vessel should fail without a supply of it. One Captain writes us; “I have made several voyage#—often with emi grants, and though I keep a good Medicine Chest, and I have several times had a good deal of sickness on hoard, I have found tho PAIN KILLER so efficient in all cases, as to entirely preclude (he use of all other Medicines.” Prices—2s Cents, 50 Cents, and $1 per Bottle.
