'iKiTORTANT to Liquor Dealers.— Adjitioual instructions have been issued by the authorities at Washington rela tive to the sale of liquor. It is for the in%nnation and guidance of liquor deApts in Augusta and vicinity that we give the followiug facts : No person or persons will be allowed to sell, or offer lor sale, any distilled spirits previous to its being inspected and marked by the proper officer. Persons selling, or offer ing for sale, liquors without the pre scribed brand, subject themselves to a very heavy penalty, besides the forfeiture of the liquor. Dealers having fifty gal lons, or over, can have it promptly in spected by notifying the Collector of In ternal Revenue, 274 Broad street, and paying to the General Inspector the fee authorized by law. It is also necessary that dealers should give evidence that the Revenue Tax thereon has been paid. Where the law is violated in any of these particulars, the plea of ignorance as to its existence will not be enter tained, nor will it save forfeiture. Liquors found without the Inspector’s brand, after the Ist of November, will be seized and forfeited to the Government. Those who withhold notice from the Col lector for sixty days will not be allowed to sell the liquor. It is, therefore, to the interest of dealers in liquor to comply immediately with the letter and spirit of the law. It is also unlawful for any person to change the character of any spirits after they have been inspected, without first notifying the Collector of the fact, that he may do as the law di rects. The instructions, of which the above is a summary, are of the most positive kind, and cannot be disregarded. Athletic Games.—The old Roman custom of public games, including gym nastic exercises and athletic amuse- ments, was, in some respects, a very good one, tending, as it did, to promote the muscular powers and the strength of those who engaged in them, as well as to provide a useful, healthful and ra tional system of recreation. In this view of the subject we favor the organi" station of Cricket Clubs, Base Ball Clubs, Croquet Clubs, Chess Clubs, Turn Vereities, and other similar asso ciations. They foster a social and fra ternal feeling among our young men, and, if properly conducted, will keep them away from haunts of vice and debasement, while promoting health and strength. We have here a Musical Association nnd a Base Ball Club. The old Quoit Club is about to wind up its affairs and sell out. Pity. It should have been kept tip. Now, in addition to these or ganizations, we should have a Cricket Club, a Regatta Club, a Chess Club, and a Turn Verein. These will all do good in their way, and afford the means of rational amusement to our citizens. Give them a trial, as the season tor them is approaching. se.—A few days ago the Charles rier told how, during a terrible beautiful little babe, in swad dbiijr hes, was left at a certain gate in that city, and was afterwards taken in charge by the Sisters of Mercy. As soon as this intelligence came to the ears of the people, certain ones made applica tion for the little unknown. Elated, doubtless, at the idea of becoming the babe's pa by adopting it, a gentleman sends our associate word that he need no louger boast of the innocents here, and particularly those in his district, for in Charleston they so much abound that they are given away. One question for that gentleman:— Ifa(r)ve (y)ou the treasure? PRIME MARRIED. Ia Russell county Ala., on Tuesday evening, 11th iaat., at the reaidenee of the bride'a father, by Rev. J. E.
