REMAEK& f At the time of Report of 13th Inst., trade was beginning to revive; and notwithstanding the re cent unfavorable weather, business has continued to be tolerably active. The Fall trade bus now commenced, and our City will toon resound with the hum of trade. Our merchants, in every branch of business, are making extensive preparations for the usual transactions of the season ; arrivals of fresh Goods are daily occurrences, and store-houses seem almost to groan beneath the weight of sup plies within them. We respectfully call your attention to the follow ng Prices Current of the City of Augusta. You may rest assured, that the greatest care has been taken in compiling them, and that they may be relied.upon as correct quotations. FINANCIAL,. The demand for Gold and . Silver since onr last has been almost entirely nominal, owing to the scarcity of money. Our report closed on Gold buying 143, selling 146; Silver buying 135, and selling 140. During the week we know of no cbdflge, Specie remaining steady at these figures. And at;tbe boor when we close onr Review, being governed by,the latest New York dispatches, we show a decline In Gofd in this city on last week’s Report of lc., viz.: Gold, buying.. * 142 ' Gold, selling 145 Silver, buying 134 Silver, selling 131) Exchange on New York stands at par. BACON.— I The stock is not quite as heavy as at last report, hot fully adequate to the present de mand. Prices which seemed slightly easier last week, are now stiff, at the figures quoted. There may appear a wide margin in the prices of Bacon, but this is caused by the style and size of packa ges. We have no changes of ftnpottance to make in our Price List this week, as the market beto kens firmness at prices There have been but few sales of importance, none but con sumers seeming disposed to bay. There is a great deal of qnsßXiked Bacon on the market, known by the name of Cumberland, which sells a little lower than smoked, buyers generally smoke this Bacon themselves; however, the regular staple kinds of.lhicou stauid at the figures quoted, viz.: CTearSides 21f024Hc; Clear Ribbed Sides 23(u£3*c; B B Sides 22u?23c.; Shoulders 20&21c.; Hants, plain, 27c.; Sugar Cured Hams, canvassed, 28(gr 3Ur ; Breakfast 23^24c. Tbe supply of both is flearly ex hausted. YARNS—A better demand stock reduced; prices unchanged. IRON. —Fair supply with moderate demand, a the figures yn next page. COTTON. Onr present report opens, as onr last closed, on an active market. During the past week, trade has been very steady. Tbe offering stock of really good Cottons dock not eqmfl the demand; and since our last. Cotton has advarifetd three cents a pound. Reports from the country show that everywhere the crops for the present year have been over esti mated ; added to this, came the telegraphic news of the advance of Cottort of Kd. in Liverpool, and active. These things naturally caused a stiffening of prices. 'Die total receipts of Cotton in this City, up to date, from Ist instant, sum up 1,056 bales; the sales for the same time amount to 1,974 bales. The offering stock continues light, and prices are looking up. There was quite a good demand yesterday; pri ces stiff, at figures given. We close our Report on an active market, at the following rates, INTER NAL. Revenue Tax Paid, viz.: Ordinary a .. Low Middling 29 a 30 Middling 32 a .. Strict Middling 33 a Good Middling 34 a v . We copy from the Cotton Circular of William Bryce A Cos., of the date, Friday, September 16. the following: Our own Market for the week now closing has been active and buoyant. The advance has boon based on several reasons, the chief among which is the scanty supply and heavy consumption of our spinners at present. Again, the holders of cotton rendered their stocks on the Ist inst., and instead of 125.f>00 bales, ohly 66.000 could be counted. This diminution in stock has exercised considerable effect oTi the views ol holders, and buyers have sympathized to some extent. An informal count by ware house has likewise been made, which shows 94.000 Julies in stock; the general impression seems' to be, however, that errors have crept into both counts, and that 80,000 to 85 000 bales is about the .correct figure. The unfavorable crop accounts have likewise had something to do with the advance, but offers are freely made to deliver Middling Uplands in December at 31c. Some of our mills are contracting for their goods, based on purchases of stock at these rates. Exporters have bought with freedom, manv filling specific orders for grade and staple Good stapled Middling Cottons command %and. above quotations in Liverpool, where, as here, good cottons are not plentiful, and in sharp request. The receipts continue to bo mostly of‘mixed lots,” which do not command the rates of even-running lines of equal aver age grade. New Cotton conies slowly in. but few lots have arrived; one lot of “Low Mid dling ,T * sold early in the week for 33c., and another lot of “Fully Middling” of fine staple sold for 38c. A large amount of all grades could be sold to our domestic spinners at rates above those now current, if the Cotton were on hand for immediate delivery. THE LATEST.
