The rascal I —An Irish sailor, as he was riding, made a pause; the horse, in beating off the fiies, caught his hind foot, in the stirrup. The sailor, observing it, ex claimed: “How now, Dobbin, if you are going to get on, I’ll get off; for, by the powers, I will not ride double with you.” —An Irishman lost his hat in a well, and was let down in a bucket to recover it. The well being deep, and extremely ‘dark withal, his courage failed him he foffe he reached the water.
