Failing in his efforts to raise potatoes, thisAmatebr agnculturist will now take lessons in “cultivating the soil,” for hys country's good. ,- ( Transgressors must be punished, and it behooves all who . feel inclined to violate the law just to remember this snot. i ' Recorder’s Court.— ln this Court, yesterday morning, a case of violating the 17th Section—uo relation of the lbtn, except that it comes just before it—was fined $1 and costs. A colored edition of the lSth Section, rather a bad case, was 'fined sls or 3D days on the street. A negro girl, charged with being, a street walker, was discharged, as there was no evidence against her. On being asked where she was from, she said, “ Me, from Ole Ferahinney,” and stated thht she “cow'd de.oollitch.” Which being interpreted, means that she was from “ Old Virginny,” and that she scoured the Medical College. Her pecu liar dialect caused considerable amuse ment, some thinking that she was crazy or idiotic; but it Was in evidence that she was a very sharp girl, and that her “ lingb ” was merely a “ nat’ral way of doing things,” as Arteruus Ward’s Bet' sey Jane expressly observes. * A violator of the “ Idle and Suspicious Character” Ordinance, was fined $lO and hosts or twenty days’ work. As he didn’t have the capital to invest, he will take stock in labor. The Hot Suppers. —Be it remera. bered that the hot suppers to he given by the ladies of St. John's M. E. Stovall, Esq.’s property, which is ad vertised in another columti': A sale is announced in another place on the 28th of November, of sixty-five desirable building lots in Woodlawn, in cluding the commodious residence of Capt. T. P. Stovall, one of the most at tractive and desirable places in the vicinity of the city. It is adorned with beautiful walks, a great variety of the choicest shrubbery, and an extensive selection of fruit trees. The out-build ings are new and extensive—and the water has long been celebrated for its coo Loess and parity. This property is all admirably located 1 , adjoining as it does the Georgia Railroad, and being also on or near the line of the proposed street railroad. A street has been opened from the race track, and one also running at a right angle with the Turk nett Spring Road, rendering the lots ac cessible from every side. We know of no more desirable loca : tion than this in the vicinity of the cityi In the midst of an excellent population, with a school of established repute—out of the city limits, and yet within lesd than two njilps pf tfye lower market—• having a most fertile' boil, well adapted for gardening and fruit culture—and quite sure to be put in hourly communi cation with the eity by means of the street railroad—lt appears ti be thd very place for a suburban village; and we have no -doubt the lots will command good prices. .-1 . J,l '■ The AuMWciAt. Limb Man. —The Macon Journal ds Messenger has beep requested to inquire into the whereabouts of and doings of Dr. Bly, the gentleman who received the contract from the State of Georgia to furnish artificial limbs to such of her soldiers as are unable to supply themselves. -The Mes senger sa fi -every pdbk fellows come hundred of miles'ti'Macon, spending all the they are; possessed of, atm are disappointed, and have to return as they came. The Mt**euger relates having heard one poor fellow say he had come over two hundred miles after a log, and it would cost hint morC'tOfcomt and re! turn than the leg was worth. As there is no retaedy for this evil, we would ad yi«e aR parties to wait .the proper notice of the limbs having been received. Pf.
