Our own scientific men have fixed the nights of November 12th and 13th as their “field nights,” and are anxiously MtiS tlipflfreifll bgthe time. In view of the near approach of this brilliant phenomenon, perhaps a few words relative to precisely what may be expected, may not be out of place. One mi&ht go back as far as the year 900 to trace the beginning of these periodic heavenly displays, but the more modern occurrence of the phenomena 'Was isk(trfcd in Boiithei^n G.ertnaiiy, on ,! This phenomenon was noted as far south as the equator, over North America, and on the other side of the Atlantic, in Germany. The eleva tion of the meteors was computed at more than 1,419 miles.
