New Fuel For Steamships. —A se ries of . important experiments upon Mr. Richardson’s method of burning mineral oil as a fuel for steamships and steam Engines was terminated recently at Woolwick (Eng.) Watts A Co’s Liverpool Cotton Cir *cular, from which we extract the fol lowing : The sales of the week sum up 95,350 bales, of which 36,150 were taken by the trade, 1£,280 declared for export, and 6,920 on ’ speculation. Imports light, say 19,711 bales, of which 7,702 were American. The estimated stock now adds up 665,160 bales (a decrease on last week of 87,340) against 323,070 last year, an inoreise of 342,000. Counting the Chipa piculs as half bales, the .Cotton jat sea'for Great Britain is 149,000 less than Ur year, khich, deducted from excess in stock, shows the total apparent excess, as compared with last year, to be 193,000 bales. The total aDd apparent sup ply (here and at sea) now adds up 814,160 bales, whioh is 8,840 less than shown by our last report. The stock of American, 199,730 bales, which is 9,710 less thin last week; but the quantity at sea is now estimated at 20,000, against 15,000 last week. Baltimore advices of Saturday, the 17th instant, speaks thus in reference to Cotton : The market has been very flat and unset tled during the week, and prices have ruled irregularly.
