Petroleum Refute.
), In tbia ago ot rapid improvements, not
one has come nnder oar notice that bos
stmek ns so forcibly as the application of
Petroleum as a fuel. The revolution it
baa already produced is a sufficient evi
< deooe.ttat it will supercede all the old
methods oi heating rooms, cooking, and
•ye>A tjunning steamboats, and the gas
produced from it has no equal in bril-
liancy and purity.
Mr. H..S. Saronie, the patentee, has
sold the patent right for the State of
Tennessee to a stock company, the
members of which are gentlemen of I
standing and enterprise, and some
among the best business men of Mem
phis, who, knowing its importance and
watae, bath taken largely of the stocki
It is known as the Tennessee Petroleum,
Engine, Gas Light and Vapor Stove
Company. This company is well orga
nized, with liable and competent gentle
men for its officers, and will, in a short
time, be in full operation.
: The great economy in fuel by the use
of this article is immense. Its gas is a
very pure and soft light. In cooking
there is neither smut, smell or
ashes. The stoves can be moved easily,
being of no heavy weight. This article
is not the pure Petroleum oil: it is the
refuse thrown from Petroleum while it is
undergoing the process of refinement,
and called Gasaline, and only costs
thirty cents a gallon—a gallon of which
will cook, and light p house for a large
family, for two weeks at least. The
Gasaline is a limpid liquid, and is per
fectly harmless. The much-talked of
idea that it is dangerous is a fallacy. A
half grown girl can work the stove and
gas also. The time it will take to heat
a room by a small stove, by this process,
is about three minutes. The heat is a
pure and moist atmosphere, and destined
to be of incalculable value to the sick,
room. The atmosphere of a room
heated by' this process is so pure that it
becomes almost instantaneously a vapor
bath to the lungs.
A case of asthma, and a very severe
one, we saw tested the other day. Dr.
E. B. Scott, of St. Landry’s Parish, La.,
was the sufferer in question. He was
invited to the room of Mr. Saronie at
the Worsham House. There was a pe
troliura stove with one small burner
light, and in three minutes after Dr.
' Scott entered the room he was relieved
ot his asthma, and it did not retnrn for
throe days, at the expiration of which
time he tried again with the same
almost instantaneous effect. We do
not claim that he is cured permanently,
but he feels sure that by frequent inha
lations of the atmosphere of said stove
the cure would be permanent.
Asa disinfectant it cannot be sur
passed. We noticed in the New Or
leans Picayune, a few days since, a
lengthy and elaborate article, approving
of petroleum as a disinfectant.
. There is no doubt, that in a very short
time, every steamer on the Western
waters will be ran by petroleum refuse.
T. Sarouie, the patentee, left
here a day ago for Pittsburg, Pennsyl
vania, to superintend the completion of
his steamboat, to be run by Petroleum
refuse, a very accurate description es
which Was given to the public a few
days since. Mr. Saronie intends to
have his steamer at our landing by the
middle dr last of December, and he is
peffeetly confident of his success. If so
it will make a complete revolution on
our waters*—Jrrm. Com.

register the movements of the Iblootpn

great help in the conclusions which he
